Yeah, that's me with my prairies. Just so many things that can go wrong with prairie chicken chicks. Not jaded yet, I don't let set backs rule....just another step in learning. It's just that this has been a really bad breeding season...didn't hatch near as many as in the past, so it really has me depressed but this too, will pass.

Yes, I'm looking forward, dreaming of fall with crisp, cool mornings and not too hot afternoons.

Me towel went from winter to summer over night here! But it will likely go from summer eat r ti winter the same way.

Our days will slowly get shorter which means it'll cool off. Can't wait for Fall, my favorite time of year.

I'm in contact with 2 other peeps that raise them, there are only 5 individuals who raise them in the USA, including me. There are Preservation organizations, that raise them also, one is located here in Texas, they raise the endangered Attwaters and the Lesser prairie chicken.
My contacts are having a bad year too, they are in different parts of the country....low fertility, weak chicks, undetermainal deaths, etc. So, I'm just really at a loss for the reasons.
The last one that died, did so while I was holding it. It was in it's death throws and was twisting it's neck around and raling. Before that, I did manage to get some Nutri- Drench in it. It seemed to improve for a few minutes but then just died.
I'm thinking it could possibly be "flip-over" disease? but that's normally seen in broilers and not in chicks. So, I just don't know!

Very interesting. I think a lot of species are having to adapt to abnormally hot, dry conditions these days.

Sorry about the veggies, chickadoodles!!

Speaking of veggies I finally planted mine yesterday!




Still have all these though... went a little crazy haha don't really have the room in the garden though so idk.. thinking of either getting more pots or expanding into that area behind it.



I was going to transplant the 4 huge ones but my dad said I should just leave them cause they're so big. I kinda agree so that's what I'm doing

Next ywar we will use this area but since we just moved the chickens like 2 months ago, it's still too soon. Plus I read that for vegetables you eat raw, you're supposed to wait like 6 months or a year before planting in it. So I'm not just concerned about plants burning, I'm paranoid about that. So we won't use it this year but next year we will plus the area we made this year so our garden will be huge



For now I've just turned it into a compost pile to make it even better.

I think I've posted before but that is the girl's new digs



And last night I had this giant bowl of pasta because I was exhausted lol took me like 3 or 4 hours.

Hot here too... mind you, our idea of hot is probably a lot cooler than what you guys get. This is the 3rd time this year that we've had heat warnings. 28c (82.4F) ... 31c in the city.

praying for a better fire season too!

Yup, 110 and 111 here next couple of days. Stay cool over there! The winds feel like a blow dryer, ugh!
