Well I feel better now. Son is/has been on furlough because of the government shutdown, and I have been worried. Family was supposed to visit this weekend, but he called to cancel due to impending snow storm. I steeled myself and minded his business - asked if he was okay financially. He said, "If you have that million dollar start up that Trump said is standard, I'll take it." Don't know where he gets that smarta$$ from, but bottom line is that he is okay and will let me know if they need help. Neither kid has come to me with their hands out since being on their own. We did help with adoption costs on his two kids, but we raised two self sufficient people. :love

And that's something to be proud of Sour! I always believed a parent's job was to eventually do themselves out of that job. Sounds like you have good kids :)

All that white in her head feathering is duckling normal ?

Well let's be honest here...is anything about that duckling normal?

(I'm waiting for her to pop back in and give us grief over these comments  )

You know that regardless of their age, they are still your 'kids' and you worry about them. There is such a fine line between being concerned and 'minding their business'. Princess tends to be a control freak (which can sometimes be aggravating) I on the other hand stew to myself and hover on the outskirts waiting to swoop in if/when necessary. I do have good kids. They are nice people.

Yep, no matter their age, they're always our kids. I figure if they're nice people, you've done your parental duties well.

I've had a hen from Tribe 2 missing. She didn't come home last night and I know she's alive because her rooster is talking to her. I've been out looking for her and I just can't find her nest. I know it's close to the tribe coop and this time of year there isn't ahuge amount of growth to provide really dense cover.
I've just seen the little ****** come round the corner of the main house and set out after her. She's disappeared again! Came out for food and a drink, a bit of a chat with her mates and gone back to her nest.:he
By my standards it's cold out there and waiting for her to show up again tomorrow in the freezing cold is not something I'm looking forward to.

I've also got a young cockerel named Treacle who for the lack of available, or friendly hens is taking his amorous drive out on my boots. Fortunately I don't belong to the hysterical 'kill the rooster' brigade who would obviously consider his behavior as a show of dominance and good grief, we wouldn't want any behavior like that from a rooster.
The problem is he is following me about. This means he has to venture into the territory of other tribes and that of course means other roosters. Poor chap hasn't had a fight in his life and he ends up standing in the open looking extremely distressed because he can see me with the other tribes.
Trying to do the water and food runs is actually quite difficult with a cockerel attached to one boot. I put him back with his tribe often but Fat Bird, the senior hen just bashes him at every opportunity. It's a hard life being male.;)

That's too bad Cap. A long time ago I had a Siamese and DS has one now. Pretty cats.
She was very special. We have 2 siamese now.
