AT 12:27 AM Goldenways Dances With the Stars aka Dani died. :hit Much tears here. The Princess is devastated, and all I can do is :hugs. This was 'her' dog.

Vet called at 10 to warn me that things had taken a turn for the worse. Heart rate and BP were good, hematocrit was good, but she was fading. She died on a blanket beside him - not in a cage. He spent the night with her so she was not alone. To quote the Princess, "He's just a good man."

Why did she die ? He is baffled. About 3 weeks ago we thought that she was going to die one night - lethargic, no appetite, shallow breathing - that all caused the visit to the vet where the tumor was discovered. In 24 hours she appeared normal. :idunno Perhaps she was having mini strokes and then just had a major embolism. Whatever for the first time in nearly 55 years we no longer have a dog in the house.

How heartbreaking. I am so very sorry to hear this. :hugs:hugs
It is good that she was in the company of someone who cared about her when she died. That is something to hold on to right now. Poor Princess. Give her our sympathies too.

Oh Sour, what a shame. And a surprise too, she seemed to be doing ok yesterday. Your vet is a good man, to keep her company throughout the night. So sorry for you and the Princess :hugs

:hit:hit I have no words, just tears. Im so sorry to hear this...my condolences to you and Princess. :hugs

So very sorry Sour, losing a dog hurts even worse than losing a great friend.
My last dog had to be put down Jan.89 haven't had one since. He was 14 and the sweetest, gentlest, well behaved dog you could ever hope for. Went from kennel dog to permanent house dog with no problem - never messed in the house, never did any damage. Had 9 pts. on his championship but, hated riding in cars so badly, just stopped showing him.

Vet never knew what was wrong with him. His torso got round like a barrel and his legs just skinny sticks. Got to where he could not stand up. He was on sulfa drug since he was 3 and had bladder stones. I think 11 years on them and k/d diet . I think it was the meds for so long a time that damaged him.

Thanks, friends. Just to get out of the house we went for breakfast. Surprisingly we became hungry. Food makes things better.

When Livvie died we said, "No more dogs!" Within 6 months we had Dani. Livvie was a pushover which made her a bit soft for obedience competition. We told the breeder that we wanted a pup with a strong personality when we went for Dani. She picked the pup for us. As a puppy if you tried to reprimand her she would sit there and pop her jaws at you. She didn't respond well to discipline. We used the crate in a fashion that is generally not productive - when she misbehaved she got 'time out'. Turns out her mother had the same personality. She learned obedience quickly but did things when SHE wanted to - so much for competition. :hmm She ran away three times. Once before we installed invisible fence and twice after. All three times she came home around two in the morning. Life with her was a lot like living with a teen aged daughter. She always pushed the rules and limits. She and the Princess never quite resolved who was dominant. She begrudgingly accepted the fact that I might be boss. She was both a trial and a joy. She had a good life here and will be missed by all who knew her.

Thanks again for your sympathies. You all are very special
