Good possibility that I'll be losing my job within the next 6 months... still can't teach hubby to budget.

WV, sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll find something even better (like staying home and playing with the animals).

On the topic of homeschool. She did that for 3rd and 4th grade, and 7th and 8th grade. I highly recommend it for junior high. It's such a hormonal crazy time it's nice for them to sort that out at home. She did private school for 9th grade and public for 10-12. 12th grade she took college classes too and graduated with a 3.8, and honors and was 17 1/2 when finished. It's always such a confirmation when your child does well after homeschooling...my parents thought I was messing her up. LOL
Everyone was telling me I was ruining him.

There was not one teacher in high school that did not feel the need to tell us that he was the most mature and prepared kid they had had.
And, he knows how to cook and wash his own clothes.

He got to socialize more with all ages and types and personalities as a home schooled kid, than he ever had time for in high school.
And really what is more normal for socializing, all the same type of kid the same age in the same class doing the same thing? Or all different ages doing different things and getting to talk about their different projects?

We had grandmother and teenager and new born babies in the home school groups.

It was a good thing.

Tell your DD happy birthday for me!

Let's hope not.
I would like to the arts survive.
I would like to see independent businesses survive.

I do not make a good socialist.
We will all be working for MegaMart just like the 'Wall-e' movie predicted.

Hi Guys

Barging in again - sorry

Hope you all are well and safe...

Absolutely had it with the UK - it is the most awful place to live and the medical system is beyond hopeless. After my mums' bad treatment in the nursing home she really didn't do well when I got her home so I got an ambulance (private) to take her to the A&E because I was sure she banged her head when she fell.

Anyway we were stuck there for six hours waiting for a doctor to see her. During that time in the space next to mum there was a young girl in extreme pain and the 'doctor' kept saying she was constipated they gave her enemas and drinking stuff and and - two hours in she had a baby!!! the girls father was there and they said to him are you alright and he said to them he didn't know what had happened. Also there was a poor old lady who lived alone and had chopped her finger off - she was screaming and screaming for help - and then she had an accident and I called the nurse to help change her but they said they were in shift change - she was still left waiting for a 'doctor' when I eventually got mum out of there at three in the morning.

2.00pm in the morning they scanned mums' head and said there was bruising but because her kidneys were failing they weren't going to do anything. After 70 years of age in the UK they don't want to know and my mum is 90 but she is still a person

Back in South Africa for Christmas but so stressed leaving mum with carers - Blood pressure so high doc says I will have a stroke if I don''t chill - so difficult having to deal with this on my own and the selling of their house is such a bad time and what to do with her when I do sell the house.

Right now we are digging up our garden and trying to do a flat for her -

As far as home schooling is - my son was diagnosed with ADHD and could not fit in with the normal school teaching - the doctors wanted to put him on Ritalin - I would not allow this. I took him out of school for two years when he was 7 because it was a battle everyday to get him to school and he was so very unhappy. For those two years we did things together, paid bills, worked in the garden, cooked, washed ,cleaned, shopped - did really difficult code puzzles painted everything walls books posters table cloths - read books mythology, history,Shakespere - did the stock exchange everyday - just things that he was interested in and not 'school' things.

He went back to school to get his certificates and it was an International College which did English 'A' levels from Cambridge University and he got six A levels with A++ and has never looked back - he has his own trading business now and is very successful so I believe that schools are not always the right thing for some kids...

lots of love to all xxx

I

Whoop Whoop you are a very wise mama. Your son just needed the right 'growing' conditions to nurture his potential. I am so sorry your mother isn't getting the respect and care, her health providers should be granting. Over here I've heard that if you are 70, the healthcare program won't cover cancer treatment etc.

A part of me really wants to take this and plaster it all over Facebook. But I know from past experience; the ones who will listen, already agree, and the ones who disagree, wont listen :he. Socialism is a wonderful story of everyone working in harmony for the common good, but it does not work in the real world, because people are by nature lazy. I used to believe this was common knowledge, then i realized no one reads anymore :rant....Sorry i will get off my soap box.
