Well, maybe should have? I'm not really sure. I'm a bit of a Sally when it comes to doctors, so I try and stay very far away! It was a new nail, though, not rusty. Swollen, but no sign of redness.

Get the shot if you have not had one in the past 10 years. Father Sour has spoken.

A bit easier tonight. Bracket went in first and one chick got halfway up the ramp after her. The chick toppled off the edge but I caught it and helped it finish the climb.
Number two was clueless and I put her in.
Hinge and Nolia went in leaving that little black one in the picture below cheeping madly outside. I herded it to the bottom of the ramp and up it went. Sorted. They might all go in tomorrow with any encouragement.
Punch and Mag have been spending quite a lot of time with the hens and chicks and the hens are much more cover aware than they were yesterday.

That is Bracket on the left and Hinge on the right.

That is Nolia on the left. There is a chick under each hen. You can just see the black chick peeking out from under Hinge's wing.

Having seen this lot share the chick care I'm a bit sad that they didn't hatch more. This is a first for me as it is for them.

If you are going to get the tetnus shot, do yourself a favor and work the arm you get the shot in.
In 1993 my Appaloosa mare split my upper lip nearly all the way through by rearing up then coming down on my face with her mouth. The tetnus shot hurt worse.
So in the flood of 2006 we had to get tetnus shots and I remembered the pain of the one I had in 1993 so I figured the next day I wouldn't be able to use that arm. As soon as I got home from getting the shot I spent the day painting my entire basements block walls. My arm never hurt the following morning.
I repeated this again after the 2011 flood "just in case" tetnus booster. No pain.

The group effort to raise the chicks is interesting.

I'm going to have to take Cillin to see my wonderful vet Gloria. He's got bumble foot on one foot. He had it in the same foot a few months ago but without a core as such. I squeezed the muck out and disinfected it and he was fine until now. It's not bad bad, but I haven't checked the boys feet for a while, due to the outbreak of broodiness.
