I find problems of ones own making the most irritating.
It[‘s been raining here on and off for the past few days. The mornings have tended to be sunny and warm, and around mid day, the clouds roll over and it sort of drizzles on everything. Last night and today it’s had some really enthusiastic goes at soaking everything as quickly as possible. It comes down so hard you just know you don’t want to go out there, even with waterproofs on.

The chickens aren’t keen on it either. Here lies the problem of my own making. Reasonably enough, when it starts to rain hard, Tribe 1 in particular, have a quick meeting which usually results in a lets go round to Bucket Boys to keep out of the rain vote.

I really do keep my door open all day every day no matter what the weather. There’s the chicken poop naturally, but some thought went into the flooring and a bit of toilet roll in the right hands can clean up even cecal poop.

When it’s pissing down with rain it gets muddy out there. Tread in it with wellingtons on when you go to take the next step your foot pulls out of the boot type muddy.
Chickens don’t wear boots. It’s something I often feel I should point out on some of the introduction threads. It’s not lots of mud; it’s random deposits here and there around the floor and under the furniture. It needs to be cleaned up before the chickens tread in it and spread it about.

This isn’t the greatest of entertainment with an adult flock when it’s dry, it’s a nightmare when there is one hen having a moulting meltdown, another who stands directly under your feet when you stand at the sink, Mel with her attitude problem and her three little ones trying to keep their options open if they have to make a dash to avoid an irate adult. That’s eleven pairs of muddy feet, mostly getting under mine.:rant

I love it that they can come in and out at will. When they don’t come around for a few days I miss them.

Need to get yet another bottle of bleach.:rant

Maybe you need to put out a doormat so they can wipe their feet before coming inside

I quite enjoy the tales of your house chickens :gig

Love that mat, Debby!

Neat mat!
I used to have a mat on the doorstep. I discovered that the first thing a chicken does before it ventures into the wicked world from the safety of my house is have a crap.
Sometimes it's the house side of the door, other times it's just outside. Shifting shite off a concrete floor is one thing, trying to get it off a bristly mat is another.:lau

I had to get rid of my door mat for that exact reason. Why do they enjoy pooping on the door mat so much? If I could do it all over again, I'd find a way to keep them off my front porch.
My door mats fill will sand and are worthless :( But I love them and try to use them anyway :p When they are beyond washing I finally break down and replace the darn things!
