BYC Café

The temperature went from 11C to -1 in half an hour here this evening.:hmm
The skies were clear when I last looked so a freeze looks likely.
That is quite a drop in such a short time.

The only metric dealings I have is with nuts/bolts sockets/wrenches.
And distance measurements - your roads are posted at kilometers/hr! And liquid measurements! Your gas is sold by the litre. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

For a minute I read Mom's!
Mum = Mom! On of the YouTube channels I follow the guy always mentions doing some work over at "my Mum's".

Fear the gsd was that scared in the beginning and we did not take her out of the yard first month
That might be a good idea. Seems she is so petrified of everything that it might be best to work on getting comfortable just being out in the yard then work from there.

His wrist still bothers him, I doubt he had it looked at. Now his problem is his shin and foot where he dropped a log when the bark fell off.
Well people who don't sit still do manage to get hurt more often.

So, it's New Years Eve and I'm still cleaning up after the rat.:he
I sweep and mop the floor most nights. This is different; everything has to be bleached and that includes the roof beams.
Behind the cooker was disgusting.:sick Behind the fridge much the same. I'm about half way through the house now.

At least you're welcoming in the new year sans rat and the house nice and clean.

That is so sad she’s that terrified. :(

Maybe slow exposure might help? Like taking her there but not necessarily trying the whole thing right away? Just trying to get her off the pavement at first? Then maybe a few steps, etc. till she’s more willing to do it? Or what you did with the circles. That would probably work too as long as she’s willing to do it and not scared.

Seems she just has never seen anything in her life and I’m sure with more exposure she will be fine!! Pretty soon she’ll be prancing around those fields so happy!

And I think having Skittles there will help too because I think they feed off each other. I know Franklin is a bit of an anxious dog but when Libby is there, he is a lot more confident. So hopefully Skittles will help her.

It is pretty sad though she’s that scared. Did they ever walk her or just keep her in the yard all the time? Even if they did walk her, I bet she’s only ever seen paved sidewalks and manicured lawns and never any real nature! That’s so sad. :(

Although usually most dogs love nature and at least sniffing even if they don’t want to walk much! She must be pretty terrified if all she wants to do is lock up and tremble. :(

She’ll get there though with your guidance!

Is she interested in sniffing at all? Maybe letting her sniff the area a bit first might help ease her anxiety a little bit??

Poor thing. :(
The first two times I took her there she did the entire route with no encouragement. She sniffed a lot.
I'm thinking her seeing the other couple with the off leash dog and us arriving not long before dusk was just enough to push her over the edge.
We'll go early tomorrow.
And, yes, I've always used a confident dog to help rehabilitate an insecure dog. They are invaluable. Skittles will be able to help her along the way much faster than I alone can.

We used Moose with Fear and still had Raudy to put her in her place of course there was more dry weather when we brought her home first time I led her into Dels feed store she knew the devil himself was waiting I knelt and coaxed her in after that she was good there any new place for the first year was shaking

Hmm, weird she already did it perfectly fine before. I think like you said, probably seeing the strange people and dog maybe scared her? Plus it being almost dark. She’s probably still nervous about little stuff like that. But she will get there. :)

And that’s awesome. :love

I agree!! It’s amazing how much faster they come out of their shell with a dog friend there to help them out haha

I've had Bella in PetSmart and Lowes. She did fine both places.
I agree with Shad that she has some level of agorophobia. She still doesn't want to go much more than 5 or so feet off the deck steps before she locks up.
I also agree with Sour that this girl has spent most of her life confined to a crate or whelping box. She certainly hasn't led a normal dog life.

I live in Montana, Bruce. Not Canadia! We're mph and gallons :D

I've never even heard of such a thing. I've never had any breed of dog that didn't want to run off leash let alone walk in huge fields and wooded paths. She's going to take a lot of work, that's for sure.
Can you work her with another dog? Maybe that would make her feel safer.
