Then yes we have winter! Foliage season is generally the last 2 weeks of September, first 2 of October. Somewhere in there it goes below freezing a few times then warms up for about a week: "Indian Summer". That is the kick in the pants that says "You better get things winterized, this is your ONE chance.

USUALLY we will see a little snow in late September and in October though it doesn't stick around. Didn't see any until December this year, super unusual. It is hanging around freezing currently, I think that is unusually warm for early January. Another USUALLY: we have a fair bit of cold then the "January thaw" where it goes above freezing for over 24 hours. That can be any time in January, early, mid, late. Following that we freeze our butts off as the temp dives well below 0°F. Plenty of single digits to negative temps well into February then it slowly warms up again. We always still see snow in March, often into April, on rare occasion in May. Spring really doesn't start until early May when the leaves on the trees finally come out.
You just described winter in the Southern Tier of NY.

That sounds very similar to ours! Including the nice weather in January bit. It was almost 50° on New years day. We had our first snowfall in September, which wasn't unusual in itself, but how much we got was.

June 1st is a pretty typical last frost date around here, which is a bummer. Wish it would come a little earlier.

Will Brexit affect your ability to remain in Spain?
Possibly to probably. I'm due my pension next year. If the UK won't pay it to people living out of the UK which is a distinct possibility I won't be able to stay here.
It also depends on what the Spanish reaction is to the UK bombing out of the EU.

Do you have, or could you have, an arbor on that side of the house? You could cut some of the sun without losing all the light. I gather you designed and had built, or built the house, yourself? I'd love to see pictures.
I'll post some.

Tribe 2. From left to right Rivit (dark) Lock (brown) Mag, Punch and Hinge taking the limelight.Ooops forgot Nolia (black at back).
One missing!
Yes I know you need 10 hens per rooster. Yes I know they'll get over-bred and lose all their feathers. Yup I know the roosters will kill each other and you can only have one per flock.
Would someone like to tell the chickens.

And here she is. Barking Bracket, aka Miss Neurological.:he
I found her yesterday night in the vegetable garden wedged in a corner; fence on two sides and a bank climb to get at her nest. She had eight eggs. I relocated her and left her with six eggs.
