BYC Café

I've just agreed to rehomed a young cockerel and two hens; brother and two sisters.
(Knocks most recent hatchings)
A young man I've known for a few years through my niece turned up last night asking if I could spare a male and two or three females.
He and his family are circus people and used to keep chickens as pets and performers. Their last chicken died a couple of months ago, a nine year old rooster. The young man has taken an interest in woodwork and has been working with an established woodworker on this mountain. The young man has refurbished the coop and built a new run. The run is 10 metres by 5 metres and it's hawk proof.
I can't build any more coops and these three may well have ended up on the table at some point.
I'll be sad to see them go but out of the inquiries I've had this young man would be my choice for a responsible chicken keeper. If the circus reopens they may well feature in future performances.
These are the three as yet unnamed.

They are lovely looking birds. Sounds like he got a good deal to me.

My elder sister did that with an electric sewing machine. She just sat their screaming with her foot pressed hard down on the pedal. I had to unplug the machined to get her finger out from under the sewing foot.
Yep. My mum's done that. Right in & over. She's a very fast sewer. 😬

I hope you squeezed the finger until it bled and then poured disinfectant on it.
Nope. No no no!! I am a big fat wuss.
BUT when I changed the bandage there was a bit of blood on it so it's draining.

The friend I spoke with last fall who that said he could help me with my roof this spring came out today to look at the job. He said it was too complicated and that he didn't have time before he was headed to his summer camp. I know it's complicated. I wouldn't have asked for help if it were simple. He did give me the number for a guy who should be able to help me.
While we were chatting in the driveway, the front door opened and out came Bella.
I allowed her to hang out with us after I closed the door. Her presence reminded my friend of a friend he had who raised Dobermans.
One day the friend came home and saw evidence that someone had tried to break into his house. He went in and nothing seemed amiss but his poor Dobie was hacking and gagging so he rushed him to the vet. Upon examination of the dog, he was found to be choking on a human finger! :lau

Should make it easier to find the criminal! How many people are showing up at the doctor or ER with a bloody hand missing part of a finger?

I guess you need an outside latch on the door so Bella can't come find you. And one up high on the inside so she doesn't go out when you aren't looking.

I had been out there for a while and she'd probably been watching me. DH wasn't in the living room when I shut the door so she likely took advantage of the opportunity to escape when he left the room.
I've been changing my normal daily routine to go out the mudroom door as she doesn't have access to it. Today was just out of routine and I was right there.
