My dad has been heavy on my mind this week. Funny little things keep popping up that make me think of him. The smell of cheap paint, persimmons, quirky quotes, a call from his sister... there are too many to list & they’ve all been hitting me at once the last few days.

Except when it cripples you and shuts you down when you already have too much to do.

Sometimes you just have to give in to it. You can only force it back so long before it explodes out.

Did a lot of that in the couple years after my dad's suicide and my sons OD.

Just one of those would be enough to take a lot of people down but both? I can't imagine.

At first I found it easier to talk about it with strangers,

Some of us are stranger than others but I bet there isn't an ear (eye??) here that can't sympathize from personal experience with the loss of a loved one.

In my experience, strangers seem to have more empathy and less awkwardness about it.

The best person to talk to is the one who just listens.
The most helpful condolence I got after Dad died, was a coworker who said "my brother committed suicide" and that's all he said. He was a pretty good friend and we talked in depth later, but just hearing that was a great comfort and relief.

Just one of those would be enough to take a lot of people down but both? I can't imagine.

Thankfully they were a good 15 years apart. A year after Dad died a dear father figure died rather quickly of lung cancer, that kicked me while still down.

Right knee is giving me pain damn thing... The Son had his mother take her own life a real piece of work .. He talks to me of it I just listen tell him he is better and stronger than she ever was .. Just let him talk all he wants but tells me how great I am
