Although I love the breed, the hand-stripping is something I could really do without!
Bella sometimes gets brushed with a rubber horse curry comb followed by a soft bristle brush. She usually only requires a "washcloth bath" only occasionally. I just wet a cloth with hot water and ring most of it out and put a splash of mouthwash on it and rub her down and repeat until she's cleaned up.
This is honestly one of the big attractions for me to Dobermans. They require minimal coat maintenance.
I LOVE the looks of all the long coated breeds but could never bring myself to get one because of the coat management. And then there is the hair all over the house...

Yes, that's more or less what our other dogs required: Bavarian Mountain Hound, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Smooth Fox Terriers etc.

But I grew up with the neighbour's Airedale Terriers and obviously got an early infantile imprinting, so I just cannot do without despite all the PITA coat maintenance!
But the Airedales almost don't shed, if the coat is maintained in good condition.

The easy fix would be the use of clippers, but their coat will lose the beautiful colour and get soft like cotton, soaking up all rain instead of repelling it like a hand-stripped coarse coat does. And in addition the dead hair will stick and lead to itchiness, eczema and lots of dust bunnies allover the place, as they will be having scratches all day long to find some relieve.

They look like some kind of sad and faded poodle:

This is Ollie's coat:

Same here, DL! We live out in the country, with lots of grassy fields, some burr-bearing weeds, and dirt. A neighbor's collie went to the groomer every week ($$$). We called our Dobes "teflon dogs" because nothing stuck to them. :)

And that requires first, measured rates of how long it takes water to soak away from several given sized holes in the ground.
Yep, that's a perk(percolation) test.

Hey!! :smack:gig
Kept him cut short, to avoid brushing and matting, and he was gorgeous!

Don't hit me! :tongue

An Airedale Terrier is supposed to look like an Airedale!

And a Poodle like a Poodle. I like Poodles a lot, but I can tell you that I really hate this ridiculous haircut so many of them are reduced to wear:

Much prefer them like this: http://dress-the-dog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Poodle-No-Haircut-1-500x440.jpg

Morning and thanks for the coffee! We had some digging out/in to do when we got back from State, 30 inches of heavy wet snow. DS$ got a Fourth in his bracket with some interesting bouts. I am thinking he is mulling things over a bit. I was really happy that we did not try to drive home until Monday. There were drifts as tall as the truck and many vehicles off the roads. Today is more tractor work and shoveling but it will wait until the temp warms up and the coffee is doing its thing.
Enjoy the day you all!

I'm sorry, was meant in good jest :hugs

Same here, along with many other poodle 'cuts', why I kept him cut short, except for eyebrows.

Tho we did have some fun once in while, when I let it get too long and had to start with the scissors before a bath and the clippers. :gig
