BYC Café

Oddly the trees are only just NOW starting to drop their leaves. Usually they are mostly down in August. Plus usually have the first light snow flurries in October. None this year.
August?? You don't live nearly that far north!

We can (at least so far anyway) rely on foliage mid-Sept to mid-Oct . Agree on the snow flurries though, all previous years (to my recollection), we've had at least one if not more days with snow hitting the ground in October and often in September. It never lasts the day. But it is now Nov 9, haven't seen a flake and nothing in the forecast for the next 6 days according to Mr NOAA and not in the next 10 according to wunderground.

They don't want to believe the street ends in my driveway.
Perhaps a few "caution cones" placed at the end of the driveway would dissuade them?

If not, maybe a large cutout of Granny in her rocker with her shotgun would do it.

The utility easement runs along the north side of my property. Folks think they can just drive across it to the next block. Nope, folks across it will be on you like flies on poo poo if you try it.

Or some large logs or rocks...

Lucky me, one of my co-workers has a girlfriend who is a PhD in parasitology that works at Cornell University as a professor. For those of you unfamiliar with Cornell it is an ivy league level school and their veterinary science division is top notch.
I asked him if she would consider analyzing a mixed fecal sample from my flock. She agreed. This is a result.

I started the flock on a 7-Day course of flubendazole last week that will be finished this Wednesday. I'll pull another sample on Thursday to see what it did to treat the worms species found on the slides.
I'm also considering starting a low-level infection treatment with Corid based on the coccidia results in the first slide.
When a test showed coccidiosis in my flock, I did the medium treatment for corid for two days a month for several months.

Egg production went up!

I am starting my GF sourdough. The packet I bought is only about 1/2 teaspoon, so let's hope it works.
So far, it looks like it might be actually doing something! It was really hard to tell when it was just 1 T each flour and water. Now I'm up to mixing in a 1/2 cup, so it has some bulk to it and I can see if it bubbles.

I read that I can use some of the yeasties at the bottom of a bottle of kombucha to perk it up, if need be. Now, where would I get a bottle of kombucha.... :gig (There are about 30 in my fridge right now!)

Thanks! I'll give it a whirl.
I'll have to put the Corid in their daily ferment mash to get it into them as they drink from any handy puddle they find.

Same here looks like we get your Friday weather on Saturday. That was pretty common when we watched the weather in WI while DD2 was in college there.

@Shadrach Sounds like a very nice day for you!
Do the Brits give you grief for drinking coffee?
The Britts do drink what I am told is coffee. They have lots of funy names for it; Latte for example, or flat white...
I have to stipulate very carefully how I want my coffee if I have one out. The nearest I can get to anything drinkable is to order a double expresso with one inch of hot water added with brown sugar and served in a glass, not a cup.
