BYC Café

Sending positive waves out to you, @aart, that the wind leaves you alone!
Thanks!
Mostly 15-25mph with few gusts at 30mph, making the trees bend all over.
Was thinking this morning during chores, I really shouldn't whine about it considering the winds some of our westerners deal with all the time.......but am going to any way. :D

Good morning and thanks for the coffee! Wind? No, it's just a breeze most of the time.
Only 40-50 mph gusts for the next few days, nothing like what Orca gets. I am very glad that you took time off of electronics for family, Orca. Hugs! More people should do just that! DS$ and I have been playing rounds of cards and Catan with DH and DS# jumping in occasionally. They don't like losing... lol!
Snow is supposed to fall here for the next couple of days but not add up to much so I guess
just stay safe and be warm! Penny, anyone who buys eggs at Sam's or the like should have 18 or 24 egg containers. Maybe you can have someone save some for you.

Good morning, cafe. Thanks for the coffee, DL!

We've surpassed our high of -6°F (-21°C) and are sitting at -3°. It's pretty windy and according to the weatherman, the real feel is -23° (-30°) 🥶 Sounds about right...

One very vigorous and hefty heifer calf born last night! Another one out not long after I left this morning. We put garage doors in our barn this past summer and got rid of the sliders, so it's much more sealed up. 10° (-12°) in the barn.

The south end door had been open since it was put in. The door is white. The dust is madness! It took me a confused second to figure out what had happened to it, haha.

That's what all my coop windows look like when I close them in late fall.

Will you install some heat lamps for the still wet newborns so they will no instantly freeze?

No heat lamps. Our rule of thumb is if it's under 20° (-6°) in the barn they go into the warming room to be dried off by hand and hair dryer. Above 20° and there is generally no issue if the cow is slicking them up. Some variables in there for sure, but a good guideline.
