BYC Café

Of course Fabio had lots to say about that confounded, infernal power driver I did the work with. He gave it a good peck when I set it down to cut some strapping.
This cracked me up!!
Thanks for the guffaw.

Trying to gear up my motivation to move snow from the flood zones
before the next thaw/rain/snow sequence. SMH.
Feels like that movie ground hog day.

What on earth is walking onion?
Sometimes called Egyptian Walking Onion. It's a small onion that grows shallot-type onions underground, and also sends up a stalk that makes small bulb onions. These topsets get heavy enough that the stalk falls over, and the bulbs take root, starting another plant. Thus, they "walk" across the ground.

The large brown (dead) stalks you see here grew (gobs!) of topsets. I harvested them to send to several people here on BYC.

The entire plant is edible. So I get green onions, small onions from the topsets (they'd be great for pickling) and shallot type onions from the base of the plant. They grow back and spread every year, unless you dig up the entire bunch. The main clump here all grew from one little bulb planted fall of 2019. The smaller clumps are from bulbs I planted in the fall of 2020.

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is made.
Rainy and grey here. Stuck a rather large hole in my waterproof jacket vaulting a crash barrier fence walking home last night. Not at all impressed. Looks like I'll be buying a new one.:he
I shouldn't be vaulting fences at my age according to one of my daughters.

He is SO opinionated.

Everyone was in the coop up on the roosts/boards when they heard me walk by. I heard "Thump. Thump, thump, thump..." as they all started jumping off to come running out to see if I brought them anything good to eat.

The fact that all I had with me was the driver, a pocket full of screws, the cutters and a roll of strapping and no raisins was probably the first thing that pissed him off.

He was about 2 feet from me the whole time doing that "pick crap up off the ground and shake his head at me" thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go tell it to someone else pal.

If I left the driver in there he'd probably bust his spurs off on it.

Not large onion the tend to be small but flavor is great in tops or onions.
I really like the flavor of walking onions, especially the green onions. Which is good, because they make a LOT!

I don't buy green onions any more unless DH specifically requests them during the winter. I throw way too many into the compost because they get slimy.
