They need light
I believe with light any breed will lay all winter.

Wonders when people say "winter layers' what they actually mean, do they mean with supplemental lighting or without it??
Exactly. One could potentially (and apparently incorrectly) assume that "winter layers" lay without supplemental light. I give my girls their natural winter break.

It likely matters how far north you are. If you are only getting 10 hours of light a day, even winter layers will stop laying eggs.
So what you are saying is that our less than 9 hours of daylight mid December doesn't cut it? ;) We have < 10 hours from early Nov to early Feb.

Good morning, Cafe! Brought a fresh pot to warm up with. Thermometer says 7° (-14°), but the snow is coming out of the west today 🥶 :lau

All the talk of sugar addictions, maybe I shouldn't do baked goods Monday... But for the sweet eaters, here you go!

Technically, nothing baked. Today is "no-baked" goods Monday, lol. No-bakes and homemade marshmallows.

Hi Meg, nice looking treats! Is your herd done calving now?

Not up here.
The river will hit the Action stage this evening. There are ice jams in the creeks and parts of the river that may push the water over the banks.

When Bella woke me up at 2 I could see our own little river flowing through the front yard. It's now frozen.

When this is met with 60F weather, we get lots and lots of MUD. Nice wet sloppy mud.

We took the dogs to the dog park after Skittle's vet visit for his rabies and distemper shots this morning. They had a lot of fun in the dog park but boy did they get filthy. I gave them snow bank baths and wiped them off with the towel I keep in the car, took them for a longer run in the fields where we normally run and they both hit the tub when I got back.
Bella jumped out of the tub after I had her lathered up but not rinsed. What a friggin' MESS she made of my bathroom with just a 2 second jump out of the tub! :barnie But at least they had lots of fun.

Morning Cafe It snowed but all gone now .. Warmed enough to melt it.
@Meg-in-MT Yum not a big sweet eater but yum.
@CapricornFarm I have like 23 birds all differnet ages
I'm not usually either, Penny! I feel like I'm swapping addictions for a minute, but I'll get 'er figured out eventually.

Thanks, Debby! I do believe we've got 7 left. Almost done :D Somehow I let Chewy escape without getting a picture, but I did finally get to watch her calve and that was super fun.

I did get a picture of Whiteys baby with her first calf:
