BYC Café

Home from Maine! YAY! DH drove the whole thing, about 1300 miles each way. Two days out and back, and I can say now that I do NOT like long road trips anymore. If I ever did.:barnie

I sure did miss my girls... We had a slice of bread at snack time today. Bread is a rare, special event treat.

It did rain here, Saturday night, so said my neighbor. There's 2" of water in the buckets I have sitting in the garden, so it was a good soaker.

I am happy with the cooler temps too!

Tomorrow, DH goes on another road trip (as a passenger this time) to Canton, OH to the NFL hall of fame. He's coming out of retirement for the day to help install a display there. Hopefully, they get to spend some time looking around too.

DL, the pond is looking good. :)

We drove the approximately 1400 miles in two days
The farthest we drove in 2 days was somewhat over 1,000 miles from home to Beloit, WI (taking DD2 to college) 9 years ago. Decided that was just too much and switched it to 3 days for future trips.

We also decided driving the southern route and getting anywhere near Chicago was not fun. Better to add 100 miles and go through Canada. Much less stressful.

Even the more recent trips for DD1's college in New Brunswick, CA were done in 2 days and it was "only" 600 miles. Too old to be spending 11-12 hours on the road in one day.

I'm getting there though.
Wow

The lowest point in the center will be 42"
Is that deep enough for the fish to live through the winter??

pin down the liner
Liner? What about Bentonite? Seems like it would be a lot easier than getting a liner exactly the right shape and in place.

More than enough. It only needs to be 2' deep for goldfish to survive.

Liner is much easier and more reliable. It should last decades. It isn't a preform. It's sheet EPDM, 45 mil thick. The bottom will be as wrinkle free as I can get it. The sides will have folds in them.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

It was so cool this morning when I went out to do the birds. I don't remember how long it's been when it was cooler outside than inside. It felt great!

We are schedule to build the addition this weekend. The weather is supposed to be dry and not boiling hot.

Curious. Given you don't live all that much south of me I would think your frost line would be minimally 3.5+ feet. I think ours is 4'.
I kept fish in the other pond without issue. The water doesn't freeze that low. And an aerator run during winter will keep a hole in the ice for gas exchange.

Our code depth for footers is min 42".
