We have a friend who has an elk farm- it actually tastes really good, a lot like ground beef and the jerky is excellent! He gave us some antlers for the dogs and they were happy pups. I know they sell for lots of $ in the store so we were appreciative.

Milo is definitely nicer!  Milo is a malt type drink, which all Aussie kids love.  Traditionally we would have it for breakfast with toast (and vegemite) when we are kids, but I still like a mug of it when I'm not well.  It is very good for you and high in B Vitamins.  And it tastes sort of chocolate-y.

It's delicious!

Wow. Just had it and it was great!! I hope Amazon sells it because it's really good! Not as sweet as hot chocolate. Yum. :)

A funny thing happened with my chickens today. Its the middle of Summer here, and today it is 107F (42C) - what we would call stinking hot!

Anyway, last night when we were locking the coop I said to hubby "We must keep an eye out on that girl there, I think she's going broody." She wasn't at the nesting stage yet, but she was making that clucky sound broody hens make.

This morning I opened the coop and let everyone out, and after a leisurely breakfast I noticed her head to the nest box. "That's ok" I thought - "She's probably going to lay."

I came back an hour later to do my cleaning and she was still there. I washed all the feeders and waterers, and then prepared the broody buster cage for her.

My wheelbarrow was full of cold water, and since it was already over 100F I thought I'd give her a quick dunk in the water before putting her in the broody pen.

I went and picked her up out of the nest box, popped her in the wheelbarrow and gave her a good soaking with cold water for a couple of minutes. She seemed fine with that and did not protest at all - well, I guess it WAS hot. Then I put her in the buster cage.

I swear, it wasn't even two minutes later she laid an egg, lol!

I felt like I should apologise to her! I can't believe that whilst she was on the brink of laying an egg I gave her a cold bath and penned her in the buster cage.

I am such a bad Momma!!!

She was let out of the cage as soon as she laid the egg obviously, lol. She's probably thinking "What was all that about?!"

You probably helped her out. I know I get stressed in the hot, hot heat and find coolness relaxing and same with the bitter cold and then relaxing in the heat.

Elk is quite tasty as the crew has stated and pretty common in the mountain states out west. They are like the size of a regular saddle horse and the moose are bigger. We have lots of these creatures around here, enough so that driving can be stressful in the fog or snow. I have had both be out on the highway. In the summer, a moose will cause a traffic jam with all of the tourists gawking and taking pictures and in the winter, the moose will stop the cars and start licking the salt off of them, a drive through car wash......

This is such a fun and interesting crowd!

I woke up wondering what Vegemite must taste like.
I like malt, and brewer's yeast is...a taste one can get used to , I imagine with enough malt it might be tasty.
Lots of B12 I suppose.
I think I will look for it next time I am at the health food store.

On bulls; We had a short little round black bull that was so calm and sweet my dad would let me ride on his back. We had brush cattle. I think their main purpose was to keep the woods tidy and the brambles down. The crazy scary one was the head cow. She ran the show. And any of her offspring were just as crazy.
My father's management skills were suspect even when I was a kid.
The crazy cows stayed and the passive easy going ones went.
When I asked why the sweet ones got shipped off, he said it was because they would get into the trailer and the wild crazy ones wouldn't.

So, we had the the meanest, scariest, most terrifying herd of lawn mowers in Florida.
I spent a lot of time on top of the crush trying not to get knocked off and trampled.

I developed what my husband refers to as Bovaphobia.
