Is the benefit to a raw diet the "unprocessed-ness" of it? Or is there another reason?
As a general rule of thumb (and having a father and sister as vets) I only feed raw to my dog what humans would be able to consume raw. He's on a mixed diet. So yes for beef, no for pork, yes for eggs, etc. There is a high risk of bad bacteria (and also malnutrition) if done improperly.

However, I certainly agree with a whole foods diet (unprocessed, but some things can still be cooked if they present a risk of bacteria) being much better for dogs than kibble if the work is put in to make sure it's balanced :)

Kibble is for the convenience of humans and the vast majority of it is poor quality with ingredients a dog should never eat. Many diseases can be linked back to diet. There is a lot of good information out there on how to feed a proper well balanced raw diet to dogs.
I like this site among others.

Good evening Café!

There is a freshly brewed pot on the counter, so help yourselves to it and enjoy! :caf

I just finished finger plucking the 'Dale Brothers' and my fingers are killing me. By finger plucking them, their coat will be water repellent and much better ventilated preventing skin issues and such. So, as long as my fingers don't quit, I will keep on doing it.
But I really do find this tedious grooming requirement the only downside to owning Airedale Terriers.

Interesting link @DobieLover

Glad that your hand is recovering well, Orca. Maybe next time have your father or sister stich you up, often times vets do a much better job!

I agree, vets do a great job normally - I would prefer them to a human doctor in most cases. Haha. I have vivid memories of my father stitching up my mother's finger after a knife accident in the kitchen back when I was in grade school!

Barf diet on dogs can be hard or not 20% alcohol can be used to treat raw chicken to make it safe . Raw bones are great powerhouse of good stuff.
I fed raw for years without issue and never used alcohol to treat raw meat. Wild canines don't treat it with alcohol either. :D
