BYC Café

it was a dog intensive morning here too.

The golden retriever jiggles the door nob trying to figure out how to make it work so she can get into the bedroom, and the ridgeback* beats her tail against the bedroom door, and the german shepherd sniffs loudly under the door.
This morning was compounded by the smacking and gnawing of rawhides. Maybe it is an earth day thing.
(* sans ridge)

They got started before 5 this morning. I think if my husband can sleep up to the alarm he should... come to think of it, we have a new alarm clock and I do not believe I have actually heard it go off yet.

Morning Peeps!
We have less than a foot of the new snow left. Melting fast! There are streams everywhere, all heading downhill from here....
All of the lambing equipment has shipped, like the OB gloves and the iodine, etc. Stuff that I do not have on hand...,

, Between the chickens and horses and kids, you would think I wouldn't need anything; except maybe a clone. I think I could still use a clone. I don't need any helper monkeys, had 4 of those and they cause more mayhem than the clones could ever keep up with!!
Need more coffee! Chore time...

I never had to help with lambing. They pretty much handled it all.
If it is cold when they come you will need to dry them off quickly, but that is all you might need to do.

My only suggestion is to have some lamba milk replacer on hand- or goats milk ( you can buy the canned milk it lasts longer) and a bottle. baby bottles work fine but you will need to make the opening bigger.
If the moms have problems letting their milk down It might be a necessity. I hope not because bottle feeding lambs is only cute for the first week.

We had an ewe that ALWAYS had twins and NEVER let her milk down.

Evening! Spent the day watching DS$ in his first ever Greco Roman tournament and then Freestyle after that. He says his arms are sore, hummm, imagine that one! He had a good time and learned a lot and now I think he is more comfortable with the whole idea.
Eggie, I sure hope they lamb just fine without any help, that is one of the main points of the breed.
I like your idea of milk replacer. I was kinda thinking I should do that, just because of where we live, so I will get on that this Monday. Thanks!
It's raining and the winds are supposed to hit again tonight , 60mph. Guess I should add more straw to the chickie nursery for when the power goes....
til morning.....

Hello all!

Not sure if the introduction thingis still happening or required or anything since I admit I have only read the first page but I thought this sounded like a great idea for a thread and figured I'd join. And figured I'd do the intro anyways. :)

I'm Kelsey and we have 8 chickens, all pullets, that we got as chicks in October. 1 Barred Rock, 2 Black Australorps, 3 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Easter Eggers. Love them.

Also have a dog, named Gator but also call him Cuddles equally as much or more along with a myriad of nicknames  he turned 4 in March and is half Black Lab and half Great Pyrenees.

Have a cat named Luna too, she is going to be 6 in August.

Currently building the chickens a new coop.

Saw 6 hawks the other day.

Aaaaannndddd... that's really it I guess. Well, we have almost 3 acres, or my parents do, but yeah.

Thanks.
