BYC Café

Good Morning Cafe! Thanks for the coffee DL!

Up here in Canada it seems that no one is getting away from bad Christmas weather. A big freezing rain storm out west, major windchill across the prairies, huge snowstorm hitting Ontario and Quebec and practically a winter hurricane hitting the maritimes (I’m expecting winds to exceed 112mph here in the shadow of the highlands).

But we are prepared! 🙂

Initial snow covered branches in yard foray was fairly successful.
More real firewood in shed, in better shape, than I thought.
Feeling somewhat 'safer' now for if(when?) power goes out during blizzard.
I guess 30mph sustained winds with 50mph gusts make the snow storm a 'blizzard'.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

I actually found a sweater small enough to fit Piper. I'd prefer to have her covered when she goes outside during the brutal weather we have coming.
I bought Sunny a new jacket. Unlike the sweater she had, i expect it will block wind. She hates wearing them though.

Tomorrow will be 2 seconds longer than today.....that should get them going, right?
Yep, that and about 7 more weeks of time ;)

Our winds gusting to 30 MPH and over are supposed to start about 6 PM tonight and run for 2.5 days. Peak gusts increasing to over 60 MPH around 8 AM tomorrow. Steady winds over 20 MPH starting at midnight and going through 2 PM tomorrow.

This morning, I talked DH into me going into town to get a few things. (Not that he wouldn't "let" me, just he didn't want to go.)

This was a charmed trip. The planets aligned, or something.

1. Stop to fill up car. Another customer says the local grocery where I'm going was a madhouse yesterday. Ok, I'll go there first, methinks.

2. Grocery store. Not too busy. I park in the side lot so it'll be easy in/out. I get the stuff I need, no problem. I get in a checkout line. The woman ahead of me says to go ahead of her, as I only have a few items. The man ahead of her says the same thing! I'm next in line! I chat with that guy, and he's going to Arizona in a couple weeks to prospect for gold, goes every year. And, I have a $5 dollar coupon! Yippeee!!

3. TSC. They do have another heated pet bowl, and it's $22, vs $70+ for a metal waterer and heated base. AND, I have a rewards member $10 credit! SCORE!

4. My last stop is the local farm market. They have apples and squash on a BOGO special. I get their last half bushel of Macintosh (for sauce) and a free half bushel of Empire (for drying).

5. I get home and lo and behold! the gas company has come to fill up our propane tank! If they couldn't do it today, they wouldn't be able to get back here until next week. Or month.

We are all set for the storm, just hunkering down and waiting for whatever happens. The gas can is full, the generator is at the ready. We're not going anywhere, just staying home with the dog. And the chickens.
