BYC Café

Good morning Café and thanks for the coffee, Orca.

I am still working on grafting the "not really too serious about this" broody, Kylie, to the wet nest. So far, she is only getting on the nest at night but she's also plucked her belly bare. Maybe trying to graft her will make her break instead. It really doesn't matter to me which way she goes. I'll let her set a few eggs if she locks on.
I really need to plop her onto the scale tonight to see just how much that girl weighs. I bet she's pushing 8#. She looks bigger than Fabio.

Last night at lock up, the littles came out of the coop to see me before I could shut their door. Ok, I'll just do the other pickup stuff and they'll go back in.
Nope! They discovered they could fly up/climb the dividing fence! :barnie So I had to staple the top of the fence to the roof purlins. I had zip tied the top of the fence to the metal pole that runs down the middle, but there's some space above it (ridge vent) that they could get over.

I'd rather use zip ties than staples, hands down. Yes, they're more expensive. But I hate taking staples out. I have nightmares about lost staples in the run. These are over head, so more of a PITA to remove.

This does not look too bad, you should see mine! 🤪

With this year's early drought and an insane amount of bugs there are only three cucumbers, two zucchini and two pumpkins left.
I'm doing okay considering I planted late and the very dry weather. I may have to brush pollinate my courgettes which have just started to flower.
The chickens deal with many of the bugs. They get on the plot daily.
