BYC Café

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee, LF!

My housemate, C, just left with my niece, R and his parents. C's parents are very sweet and were very happy to see the house. They really liked it and are grateful that C has a safe comfortable place to stay to attend college.

I told his parents that as far as I am concerned, his number one priority is his education. He will be expected to keep his room and bathroom clean and clean up after himself and that's it. If he wants to help with other chores around the house, that's up to him. I'm only charging him $50 a week to offset the cost of his food and electric consumption. He will likely eat all his dinners at R's house. That is also where they will hang out when he is not studying.

A few feathers on the poop boards, a few fewer eggs each day, molting season is nigh.
Fabio is sporting a whole new set of leg feathers and Remi has some new hiney pin feathers coming in.

My neighbor texted me yesterday to tell me that her hubby saw a hawk on the ground in the chicken pen and that Fabio was attacking it! I was in the basement working at the time and was oblivious and missed the whole incident!

I didn't even notice the message until many hours later so when I went home to feed the dogs I checked on the flock. All present and accounted for with no injuries. I've lost track of the number of failed hawk strikes on my flock. I think their setup is about as good as it can be to have a nice compromise between being confined and free ranging.

One of my girls has just 2 tail feathers sticking up. She looks a bit silly. She's been the first to quit, but the first of her "generation" to start back up too.

Hopefully a couple of the newest girls start up in late fall/early winter. They'll be 6 months old mid-November.
