BYC Café

Hi everyone, I’m Alyssa!

I’m currently super excited because my quail have finally figured out the nesting box is for nesting in and not dust bathing. All three of my active layers have begun laying in the nesting box instead of everywhere on the floor and in their dust bath.

They have their own huge dust bath but still chose to dust bathe in the wood shavings in their nesting box for some odd reason.

Welcome to this thread @Oob Child -- hope you enjoy it.

Congratulations on the win! Gets to live where permanently? With you?
Yes gets to live here for the rest of her life. I trained her as a pup and when I took her back to them I requested that if she EVER went anywhere she would come home to me. Friend had heart surgery this spring, and I have been working her plus others for him. This season she won a federation event, two licensed trials, and placed another nine times to achieve her championship. She's just a very nice animal, and I enjoy her. She will be bred and will return to her owners for whelping.

How old is she? Sounds like great genetics to be passing on.

She is 2.75 years old. Sired by a male of mine who was euthanized at 6 years old because of an extremely aggressive prostate cancer. Of the 56 pups he sired, 11 have made their championship, Another 10 are prospective champions. If that happens he will have a near 50% producing record - unheard of. Her mother has produced 4 Fd Ch and 2 possibilities. Good genetics for sure -

Really enjoying not hiding from the sun, heat, and humidity today.
Next weekend another heat wave starts.
Oh yeah? Haven't seen the news since Thursday, so I don't know what the weather is supposed to be like.

Hopefully, DH's box converter thingie arrives today (a day late). Then we could see the morning news tomorrow. :clap

Here is me, not holding my breath, though. :gig
