Oh yeah? Haven't seen the news since Thursday, so I don't know what the weather is supposed to be like.
I rarely watch TV news, you have to wade thru 1-2 hours of BS to get the full weather report/drama.
Better to use weather underground for my daily and 10 forecasts....
....and the weather channel for radar streams.

Why suffer thru the weatherthespians when you can see this any time you want.
Get it set to your locale, then save as an icon or tab.

So, remember a while back when I said I was hoping to get to 15 chickens or so before winter? Then I decided that’s not gonna happen because I’m keeping Red and his harem of 13, and I have sowm pullets from this summer that I want to keep…. Well, DH told me that he thinks there’s a broody in the coop. I went and checked it out. She now has 6 eggs under her… I can’t help it!I do believe we’ll be thinning the rooster/cockerel flock next weekend, though. I’m seeing barebacked hens, and one is limping. The boys are all getting randy, including Red and the little black cockerel - he’s going after the pullets that hatched with him. He doesn’t have much meat on him, but he’ll be a good broth chicken. Hopefully Red will settle down after the competition is gone. I will have the boys and their harems in two separate coops over the winter, so no fighting to worry about there.

Hi everyone, I’m Alyssa!

I’m currently super excited because my quail have finally figured out the nesting box is for nesting in and not dust bathing. All three of my active layers have begun laying in the nesting box instead of everywhere on the floor and in their dust bath.

They have their own huge dust bath but still chose to dust bathe in the wood shavings in their nesting box for some odd reason.
Welcome! What type of quail do you have?

I found one of my bantam polish chickens sitting on about 8 eggs in the run. Ugh. My incubators are currently off!

I haven’t used an incubator in years. I’m happy just replenishing my flock with broodies, and just a few at a time. But my chicks are all barnyard mixes, so there’s really no market for them. I will, if I have to, replenish with hatchery birds. Meaties are all ordered. I like having a broody do all the work when it comes to hatching.

All of the chickens here are polish, which are not supposed to get broody. But some do.

Good morning Cafe!

Coffee is ready, grab a mug and enjoy! :caf

This sounds very similar to what happens here almost every fall.

Three broodies hatched 25 chicks resulting in 9 cockerels and 16 pullets, purebreds and some olive eggers.

Way more than I needed. And a the moment I have another three broodies in the aviary locked away from the nest boxes.

Most part of the chickens TSC and all the hatcheries sell are just mixes too, they just invent fancy names for them.
