BYC Café

Thanks for sharing that, DL. It’s beautiful!

Boy did I have an afternoon… I mean, it wasn’t terrible, just a little stressful and really not the whole afternoon. Just a few hours. One good thing - I got to donate blood today. Last time my iron was too low, so I was a little worried this time, but it was good. Anyway, we had the two kids, brought them (and their dog) out to the farm and it rained for a good couple of hours. (Movie, popcorn and hot cocoa!) After waking up to water in the basement yesterday, I had been checking frequently today. It looked good every time I checked. I looked before I put the pizza in the oven. Nothing. After supper, we went down to get ice cream out of the freezer. One of the kids said, “We should put our shoes on, in case there is water!” I semi-jokingly said, “I hope there’s no water, because that would make me a cranky Grandma!” We got downstairs to find a pool of water, literally running in. The children went upstairs. I did park them in front of a screen so DH and I could start cleaning up. It was running in faster than we could suck it up with the shop vac and carpet cleaner. He went out to check the sump pump and discovered a plugged screen. So we dealt with that, crisis over.

Son came to get his kids and dog, and we realized that our dog was nowhere to be seen. Son checked shop and machine shed on his way out, but no dog. DH checked the ditches, even though our dog doesn’t wander. Checked the neighbors, no dog. Drove the ATV around the CRP, no sign of him. We were starting to think that maybe he’d been running with the grand-dog and had a heart attack or something. As I thought about it, I remembered that the grand-dog (Pepper) had come in, and wanted back out again almost right away, even though it was raining. I told her she just came in and didn’t need to go back out. I texted son and DIL, and she offered to bring Pepper back out just in case her wanting to go back out was to tell me that Ruger was in trouble. A couple of minutes after she said she was in her way, we got a phone call. DH took it as I was *still* vacuuming water. He came down and said, “Call C and tell her to abort the mission. Ruger is at your mom’s.” She lives across the lake and down the road from us a couple of miles as the crow flies. About 4 to drive it. She had been in town, came home and there was my soaking wet dog. We’re thinking he went swimming after pelicans (he’s done that before)or goslings and ended up across the lake, and just headed on over to Mom’s. Knothead. He’s 10 1/2 and a Redbone Coonhound/Lab mix, so realistically the scenarios playing out in our minds could happen any time. Heart attack, tangle with a raccoon and lose, or just wander off to die (although he’s still pretty active.) He’s a good old dog, although he’s kind of a nut. I hope we get at least a couple of more good years with him. And poor Pepper. Her career as a search and rescue dog ended before it began.

I got to donate blood today
I can't do it. They can't get blood out fast enough using a butterfly needle and I can't stand the regular ones when I need a draw.
It looked good every time I checked
I hate this feeling. I could never live in a flood zone again after the two catastrophic floods I went through.

Wow. I'm so glad that Ruger was okay! I'd have been beside myself.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

No insomnia last night. I passed right out and didn't wake up until 5. I have a headache though. And I drank tons of water yesterday so dehydration isn't it. I'll just get some coffee in me then move on to pushing water. Yesterday peaked at 87. 🤮

The almighty dollar speaks loud and clear.
The closest hospital to us, in Greenville, is part of some corporation now. That's where my neighbor went when she had a heart attack.

Where, when she presented with nausea, shortness of breath, and chest pain, the person put a wrist band on her arm and said, "Go sit over there."

Yeah, I'm never going there. I'll take the expensive taxi ride with lights and siren to some place that blankin' gives a blank! about people, more than money.
