BYC Café

I know there are horse outfits that will rent you stock and they make way more money off of the deal if the horse comes back unusable or dies while in your care. Just sayin.... chicken rental could be very profitable because everything eats chicken!

Hello good peoples! Just wondering if there are any night owls here? Although I only drink coffee in the morning...

Anyways, a little bit about myself...I currently do not have any chickens, but I will sometime this year. My wonderful DH and I are building a new home (finally!), after waiting almost three years to sell our house in town. 40 beautiful acres, with a small stream. My furry children can't wait.

Yes, I have dogs...and all the surprises that come with six months of melting snow! A 12 year old Golden Retriever named Sammy (AKA Miss Wiggles) she rules the roost here. Then there is our Chocolate lab Max, who can't swim and is afraid of ducks! And finally our Plott Hound mix, Tonka who is on Prozac. He has issues, but he thinks he is a person...

We have two children; a daughter, 24, who is in grad school. And a son, 22, who graduated in two more months. They both live in Milwaukee, which is nice, because it is a great place to visit if you like to shop. I like to shop! But I don't like the traffic, so I am much happier living in the middle of nowhere.

This looked like a darn fine thread...ahem...place to have some interesting conversation, so I thought I'd pull up a chair....

Welcome! It's 630 am here and I'm always up around this time to get the kids. Off to school. I'm on my phone so typos- sorry! I can't wait to be in the middle of nowhere. :). When my youngest graduates in 2020 then we will be free. In the meantime we are staying put on a large ish lot but still in the city. Are you in Wisconsin? I'm in mn. Look forward to chatting ! Kris. :)

Hey! Welcome. That was a cute description of your dogs.
I have a 10 month old golden and she also rules the roost. ..in her mind.
She talks a lot. 'Woo-woo-woo-woo" is her favorite saying. She uses it for everything.
Our other two dogs humor her. I understand the 'miss wiggles' part too.
We call the German shepherd 'Ilene" because she lets you hold her up a lot.

Now that I am feeling better and getting my wind back, I will probably be on more in the evening because there's gardening to do! Daylight's wasting and all.
But after a big day I fall asleep sooner... 'old' is not what I was expecting it to be.
Hope to chat soon!

Morning everyone! I had to be up early today because DH is in Madison on business and I have to let the dogs out, feed the dogs, feed the cats (yes, we have two of those too!) and put wood in the burner. Thankfully I'm not trudging through 2 feet of snow. I'm in the central part of Upper Michigan, about 30 miles from the Wisconsin border.

I've been to a lot of places in Minnesota in an earlier life (before children)! Hibbing and International Falls were fun, although IF was better in the summer than in February!

I love to garden, I'm a member of our local garden club. I'm am looking forward to,the new challenge of growing vegetables, up til now I've been doing mostly flowers and raspberry bushes.

Gardening, I need to go do that! I have seeds to plant, It will be too hot in Florida to grow anything soon. I needed to have things germinated and transplanted by now.
The vegetables are in, but the flowers aren't. I have bees to feed.

We just bought another hive set yesterday because out hive looks like it is getting ready to swarm, and I want them to move into the lovely new super right next door. I need to put a sign out, 'for rent'
But they will probably move into the bar-n or the oak tree- or the chicken coop- or the neighbor's car port.
I can only try to make it simple for them. Bee minds are difficult to read.

Nice to meet you MissWiggles. It sounds like a very lovely place that you are moving to and building a new house on as well.
A dusting of snow here this am, melting away. Not much going on at the moment, it is too cold for the summer chores and too warm for the winter fun so I guess that is why Spring cleaning exists, bah humbug!

gosh, I'd love bees! Our city has that on the table...now I just need to convince a certain man who is deathly afraid of bees to take the plunge. I bought a share a few years back and was allowed to suit up and help harvest - what a thrill. I was in heaven but he just stood FAAAR away and looked like he was about to die. :)

Hi there MissWiggles, I used to live in the center of the UP, a small place called Rock, a flashing yellow and 1 bar! Several years in the late 70's and early 80's. Got a good job offer and had to leave, real nice place to raise kids but, not much money around.
Hope you have a nice little visit, stay awhile, I'll be good.
Scott
