Good morning fellow chickenians! (I may have made that up.) I'm new to chickening and BYC. My name is Boots (seriously, can't remember being called anything else even by my parents and grandparents, something to do with climbing out of my crib, stripping naked, putting on my western boots and going for a stroll in the neighborhood when I was a baby).
I have six red stars who are 5 weeks old today. I started building a free chicken coop from pallets I obtained from Lowe's with Plan A. I ended the free coop build at around $150 and Plan S. Meh.
I'm the proud mother of two amazing kids, my girl is 8, my boy, 6. We live in a boondockish part of Lake county northwest of Orlando, FL. I have a very small tree farm growing many different citrus, 9 different varieties of bananas, peaches, apples, strawberries, raspberries and one pineapple that fruits every two years.
My chicks are in the so ugly it's cute phase having their bodies mostly covered in their adult feathers but their heads still sporting their baby down. They come running when they hear me so it didn't take them long at all to associate me with food kinda like my human babes.
I can't wait to get to know everyone here and see what these chicks are gonna do! Time to get my babes around and ready for the bus. Trib, thanks so much for creating this thread!!!!
