Did you have to go out hunting her, or did she walk into your yard and make it easy?
That is alot of free meat.

oh I wish.........I purposely did not add up all we fed her.

she was a pig left over from the boy's FFA fair project.

I kept her around way too long.......

Good morning...I passed on the meeting last night. Township meetings are long and boring...DH and I took the dogs for a walk instead, lots of trails to check out.

Something was down by the river last night that was driving the plott hound nuts. Was barking up a storm and refused to come in. Of course it was too dark to see anything...:/

Fruit tart for tomorrow's pot luck, and some bread and more cookies on the list for today. I guess I'd better finish my coffee and get the day started.

Have a good one everybody!

May not be able to wait till the weekend..... bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon............. Waiting on my bow to be turned down...... BACON!

hmmm bacon. We talked about getting a few pigglets to fatten and butcher over the summer. But DH hit busy season early and he currently is using the lot behind the barn for a couple of bulls. We fortunately do not have wild hogs here, but I would love to hunt and eat one.

word of advice........

don't get them during the summer months.......they take entirely too long to grow out then.

too hot and they don't want to eat.

the boys had to raise their hogs during the summer for a fall stock show......very difficult to get them pigs to gain weight.

they would need full shade, fans, and a misting system.

Really? That actually works out better for us, we could wait until fall. How long does it typically take a piglet to get to butcher weight?
early spring is probably the best, but you could do it in the fall.

anywhere from about 112-160 days, give or take, and depending on what you feed, and the temps.......

Good wet Tuesday Morning Everybody!

Blech - we got hit with rain too, went from almost dried out enough to wear regular shoes through the pasture to considering borrowing DH's hip waders, lol. Gonna have to go pick up some straw for the run.
Good morning folks. I had an issue with some wild hogs this morning in the yard. The dogs were going crazy.

Look like there was three mama hogs, about 150 pounds each and too many piglets to count.
Those are nothing to sneeze at - horrible, nasty creatures that can do some serious damage.

They aren't regulated here. Open season every season.

Hi, Boots, welcome to the cafe!

Yummy - your house must smell so good right about now. Nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread! What kind of cookies (like it matters, aren't all cookies good cookies?)?
