First I have hear of it. I am torn, I truly dislike factory farms, but I do not trust the humane society at all. They fall in the same category as PETA and all those other nuts. I do not like to see abused animal either, agree something should be done, but they jump straight from reasonable into insane pretty quickly. I personally believe it is an ongoing theme in our society, good ideas turned to bad ones due to overzealous people (or as I like to call them Koolaid drinkers). The organic movement is no different

Yup, there's good and bad in every movement, but unfortunately, sensationalism sells.

*sighing because of people in this world* I agree.

We have a government run research center near where we live. They do research on a animals, I assume the effects of feeds and hormones, though honestly do not know.
An employee was fired, he worked for 10 yrs there, after being fired he started claiming the animals were getting abused. Now I can tell you the cows they sell are very wild, they go through the sale barn near us all the time. But beyond that they look better then many of the cows you see.
The humane society got wind of this and descended on that poor town like rats. They even had a drone they were using illegally. It was a real circus here for several weeks

I feel exactly the same way, especially since PETA has even been proven to have and gone to court for staging some videos, so who's to say HSUS hasnt too? Theyre a terrible organization. But at the same time like you said, conditions at these places are horrible even if they don't leave them standing on carcasses. I think their need to be better standards for animal care at these places but it likely won't happen because they're a commodity and better care costs money :/

True.

Wow that's just awful :/ maybe its a similar story for this worker? They do all sorts of terribke things so it bugs me when these organizations claim theyre for the animals. Theyre for money and shock factor. I can see how the cows qould be wild, most scientists or even factory farms and stuff don't exactly socialize them or spend a long time with them like another owner, farmer, or someone keeping one as a pet might.

Yes it was quite an event. Especially considering it was all based off one disgruntled employees say so. As far as I know there was an investigation and no abuse was found, the eats quickly left.
Yeah I doubt these animals are socialized and I bet they get alot if blood work. But beyond that they appear healthy.

That is definitely unfair and strange :/ but I can see why they did it, big political/propaganda opportunity :/

Glad nothing was found though.

And yeah, that's probably exactly why but it seems odd that if they're healthy they'd investigate but probably big political and/or money thing. Seems like any sign of abuse even physical like hitting or kicking or whatever may show?

My GrandPa always told us younguns that it was OK to make pets out of his cows, any and all of them.
He said that a pet is way easier to deal with then some maybe half-broke Heifer when her water breaks or some such medical problem come up.
Also the beefers would eat better if they where not scared half to death before butchering.
My 2 cents worth.

That definitely makes a lot of sense and glad he encouraged that :) if I ever have cows, or any animal really, I'll probably do that too. I mostly hope to have goats, horses, chickens, and ducks though. And maybe rabbits. And of course dogs and cats. Maybe an alpaca. Got the chicken part down

No you could not see a bruise, unless it was swollen. And to be honest, i have watched my husband beat on a stubborn cow, and he takes excellent care if them. We are much weaker then a cow, so it would take more strength then a man has to truly injure them (remember they need to be able to withstand a bull)

I personally have bumped a couple with my pickup. The fool things were out in the alfalfa field and I was worried they would bloat (green alfalfa is too rich for a cow and it can kill them). They were stubborn and wanted to eat the alfalfa.
Usually at a sale you might see leg injuries, often happening during loading/off loading. Or extreem thinness, usually that is because the cow is old, though sometimes it is because the farmers is lousy.
