Yes I agree ducks get big quickly, they would be great for homestead. I asked, they are more difficult to pluck, but something to consider

skin'em.........

seriously, unless you're planning on baking, why not just skin them?

With a duck, from the sound of the labor involved, I think I would. How do you skin the wings? I skinned my first batch, and found the wings almost impossible, ended up with just the top, had to throw out the rest.

I haven't had duck babies in quite a while, but I remember that astonishing growth rate. Looking great!

Mornin' y'all!

on the wild ducks I've skinned, I just skinned to the first joint of the wing, and clipped the rest of the wing off.

I was gone for the weekend, came home and they look like different ducks!

I might consider processing some of the drakes, depending on how it all shakes out. I've got too many boys as it is!

Yeah that is what I did

not much left on the last two joints of the wing.......

eta: plus I would freeze them, with the feathers on, and use as an off season training tool. tie wrap it to a dummy, and then throw into dense cover for the pup to have to use his nose, to retrieve.
