Morning! Dusting of snow and the winds are supposed to hit around 9AM. 75mph today and 85mph tomorrow. Everything is frozen back solid so I guess there is some good in that.
I have about 7 eggs that were iffy on the candling the other day but I left them in until lockdown. I have had an iffy one hatch before, so the reality is that my candling skills are iffy!
The clears are pretty obvious at lockdown and that is when I get rid of them at least.
More coffee and time to feed so the critters can eat in peace before things get real wacky out there....

You don't feed hay outside do you? If so how do you nail it in place long enough for the critters to eat it?

The horses have the big bales that don't blow away and the sheep have feeders but to be honest, there have been a few mornings this year where I didn't bother to feed the sheep until the winds calmed down to the 70mph range..... very sad but very true in this ridiculous year.......
but we are all still here to complain about it so we are doing GREAT!

Thanks Scott, I can use another cup of coffee.

It's 27* and the wind is blowing 30 mph so it feels like 10*. It started snowing sometime during the night.

Yesterday we put a dry rubbed pork butt in the smoker and let it do it's thing all day. Dinner tonight is smoked pulled pork with Cuban black beans and rice (with mojo sauce of course). Oh yeah

There's loads of it so if you all feel like battling uphill through the wind and snow, you're welcome to come to dinner!

@N F C I agree! We only have a few trees, as the previous owners had someone come take out all the large trees several years ago

. But, we have a decent maple stand so over time we'll be able to tap more!

I've decided I am too tired to sugar off tonight. But the sap I've boiled down will have a high sugar content so it should be fine to wait another day I think.
