No, there were thousands making that undulating sound non stop for weeks , not just 5 days. All the birds loved them, and gorged on them as did the fox and raccoons.

We had them here for a weeks as well and yes the birds were going crazy over them!
They liked to have drove me even crazier than I already am. That plus hundreds of tree frogs and toads!

 How would I tell ? :lau

Michelle, I think Sour is thinking of regular cicadas, the ones you speak of, and I have lived through every 17 years are more in the millions to billions range. I know they said an hour of exposure to their constant din, could cause permanent hearing loss.

After ours finally departed we were plagued with cicada mites that were feeding on them. They lasted longer than the cicadas and would bite humans passing under trees etc. They caused an awful itch. We were told they don't bite humans but apparently they had to bite at least once to know we aren't kosher.

All the studios have to do is film them and it would be the scariest movie EVER.

Sour I knew you were faking, they didn't have pink eyes, they had RED ones. Sometimes I would catch two of them doing stuff(you know wink, wink) so I would stomp on them and kill 2 in one shot. Imagine all the cicada eggs I prevented.

I don't recall the bodies BUT, if you tried to flick them off your clothes they screamed like banshees. I got myself one of those French foreign legion type hats with side and back flaps, in hopes of keeping them off my face - :sick.

What I find terrifying about them is they come every 17 years and knowing I won't be seeing them more than one or stretching it 2 times. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

What a way to go.
