BYC Café

I wouldn't do that in my yard, NFC; there's ice under all this stuff:

Good thing I wasn't planning on going anywhere today, huh? Thanks for the coffee; I've a feeling we'll all be needing quite a bit of it today.:caf

Morning! It sounds like everyone is getting our winter, this is our forecast for the day: 9000 ft up in the air
Today
Sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 3 to 7 mph.

(not much change and it keeps going...)

Wednesday 1/10
Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.

I still require hot coffee though. It does get below freezing most nights, strangely, not all. We are probably going to get hit with a historical snow storm this spring, I am guessing another 7 footer if not more. Then you will hear me whine! (When the power comes back on...)

Enjoy it while you've got it Margie:)

I actually started on next winter's firewood yesterday. Cut down some trees last spring. Got them split and stacked. Going to cut trees today. Trying to get poles for the greenhouse we're going to build ( found a bunch of free windows at the dump) and for the coop expansion we're planning. The only problem with the warmer temps is soaking wet gloves.

Does anyone know anything about alfalfa crops? We've got almost no snow, and the fields barely have a dusting. With the arctic temps we've had, will it harm the hay?

Good morning!

We're slow to get going this morning and I'm opting for coffee instead of a ski. Might not make it out today if the wind picks up - it's around 2kph now and is supposed to jump to 20kph in....20 min lol. So we'll see

Good on you @Michelle Farmer-Brown , DH went out last week to check the swamp ice; even though it's barely gotten above -15 there was so much snow it created an insulating layer and the ice wasn't frozen through. So we'll wait a bit before cutting down some trees. Heck, it might be fine now, not sure. We're going to have to buy a cord of wood this year for sure. We have dreams of cutting enough ourselves to last a winter though

I am no expert at hay but DH is I will ask him when he gets in, if I had to hazard a guess I would say yes you will probably see some kill.
Please tell me all about your greenhouse made from old Windows! FIL is a horder and we have a bunch of old windows in our barn.

So DH says it depends on how often you cut it. We d
Only cut it 3 times a year and that allows the roots to grow, if you get in that extra one or two cuttings you stress the plant and it works to regrow instead of the roots.
