BYC Café

I've actually forgotten the original due date, but I believe around 35 weeks.
Was a breathing issue, which is most common issue for preterm. But yes, not any less scary. I still haven't heard any updates, they're waiting to find out if he has to stay at the other hospital or can be returned closer to home.
35 weeks isn't too bad. Good to know!

And yes...it is all very scary.

just their tiny little size..... panic inducing.

I don't know anymore so am poor choice for opinion maybe but them allowing mixed in any form to me is just wrong I am old style... judges worked to achieve a goal, handlers payed respect in how we dressed to not addressing them as as an old friend when we were in the ring but also to bring them the best of the best to judge not bring pet just to earn titles

I don't know, I don't think it's changed that much, people still dress up and they do work hard. And I don't think we should never allow new breeds, it's how they grow and improve and we'd hit a wall if we stopped that. And most of the breeds I actually do like. But some I definitely don't. But new breed doesn't always necessarily mean pets or an actual new breed. Sometimes it is an old breed that has been accepted by other registries but just not the AKC yet. Actually, that's the case a lot. That alone is actually a source of annoyance for me. That the AKC recognizes so few. I think it's the smallest number. UKC, CKC, FCI, even great britain club, all recognize more breeds. But anyway, that's a tangent sorry ha anyway, I'm sure maybe you know but the AKC has a Foundation Stock Service (FSS), which I THINK is just a program to help keep track of pedigrees but idk. But it takes years of work and the breeds have to be breeding true for a while, have a standard and history, etc. Etc. They don't just accept any random breed off the streets

That said, like I said, some are ugly. And supposed the MAS started in like the 70s? The original Aussie was supposedly bred bigger to use with cattle and then people started breeding them smaller again so they could still be used but also be a companion and easier to transport to trials etc. But I'm not sure I believe that. Maybe it's true but I really don't think they were bred to be smaller herding dogs. I think they were specifically bred to be companions or for agility trials and the like. But I doubt they actually herd so idk why they say they did.

I will also say though that it does seem like sometimes the well known breeders win. Maybe either paid off or just very political.

Quit eating sugar. The more you eat, the more you crave.

Thanks for the coffee Debby! The mountains got snow, and we got just enough rain to settle the dust somewhat. Wind was crazy last night, I'm sure we have new mountains of leaves to clean up, along with random branches.

Coffee first.

Thanks, working on it.

Good morning Café. I have brewed a fresh pot of coffee.

@kdogg try cutting carbohydrates. I too go in a 'feeding frenzy' through the winter, but limiting carbohydrates or replacing them with vegetables or protein helps control this for me.

Thanks for the tip sour! I need to eat more of that stuff ha

Also in my early show years, for new breeds it wasn't rare for the breeder to fill the entry with his assorted dogs ( pup thru open) so he'd reap a major.

From what I understand it is very easy to make up Canadian champions. Again I am referencing 70's-80's - several breeders would go up there so they could claim they had International chs. :(

That's awful

Drink more water. Often we are really thirsty when we think we are hungry

Thanks!

A belated good morning.

-37c here. Luckily it's only supposed to last until Saturday. Still quite chilly inside. Cat's water is frozen again.

Here's a few egg ideas...

Partially cook some bacon. Ring it around the sides of a muffin tin. Crack an egg in. Bake @ 325 for about 12 minutes.

Cut bread into inch wide strips. Wrap bread around bacon in a spiral. Bake on a cookie sheet for about 10 minutes. Then line those in a muffin tin and crack an egg in the middle. Bake for about 12 minutes.

Sounds good

True haha sometimes I'm not even hungry

Belgians in Canada are all one breed I liked taking dogs to Germany or Great Britain for title that was international not Canada or Mexico but did obedience and confirmation

That's awesome.

Penny did dogs have to go thru quarantine before showing in Germany and Great Britain.

We actually did but would be there for the month or so make it worth while to my clients

Thats cool :)

Did more work on the workshop.View attachment 1233436 storage bins upView attachment 1233437

Oh and here's a real interesting article on the FSS and process, breeds on it, etc

http://www.bestinshowdaily.com/how-a-breed-moves-from-akcs-fss-to-the-miscellaneous-class/

It's from 2012 so a bit dated but interesting none the less.

And here is a list of the current breeds on it. A lot of them I am familiar with and, like the article says, most are accepted by other kennel clubs already.

Apparently they are trying to get the Lakenois variety accepted.
