They have their places CKC, UKC have been around forever I prefer the German eastern European .. cannot prove sound mind and body? not akc obedience Schutzhund is a German word meaning “protection dog.” It refers to a sport that focuses on developing and evaluating those traits in dogs that make them more useful and happier companions to their owners it is to Hold not Harm proves solid mind prior to breeding
Ah okay. Sorry, I thought you meant the AKC in general (maybe you meant both?) but I can see how they could ruin the shepherd breeds especially.
I actually have heard those terms, I love watching Schutzhund, french ring, IPO, protection, etc. etc. On YouTube and I used to look into all the German Shepherd lines. There are a surprising amount of different lines. Anyway, in doing all that, I did learn about Germany's policies. GSDs have to pass a Schutzhund or IPO test to a certain level, right? And do they have to pass a herding one too? I can't remember. But I do remember being really impressed that they had to pass such strict standards before being bred. Now, of course, there were people that said that the tests were really easy and it didn't mean the dog could actually work. But still, it is SOMETHING at least. It proves they aren't completely worthless. AKC doesn't make you do anything like that. America in general also allows any BYB to breed, something that would never happen there. So I can see why you would think AKC ruins the breeds. Even like border collies can't work and probably spaniels etc can't work. Now, are those GSD standards of having to pass the tests applicable to the Belgian dogs too??
I really hope in particular the Malinois doesn't become some c*** watered down lazy pet. Because that would be a real shame. Because they are SO high drive and such incredibly working dogs. Much more drive thannthe other 3, right? They are like GO GO GO all the time, which is why I can't own one, but seem like incredible dogs that would do anything for you. And I think that crazy high drive and energy is what makes the breed. Would be a shame to lose it.
So I can see where you are coming from.
But at the same time, it would be great to see the Belgian Shepherds and a lot of the other breeds on the FSS list become more popular here.
