BYC Café

Good morning everyone
Has anyone here ever made or at least eaten a "hot cross bun"? Preschooler know knows the little rhyme about them and desperately wants to make them. I googled a recipe, but having never even eaten one, not sure how good the recipie might be.
Wiki says it is a catholic feast bread for Good Friday.

A sweet bread roll with currants and a cross cut in the top for the holiday

I've eaten them but never made them. To me they were sweeter than a regular bun but not as sweet as say a cinnamon roll (at least that's what the one I tried was like).

Give it a try and see what you think!

There are much more enthusiastic bakers here, so I'm sure y'all can correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that the practice of cutting an 'X' (cross) on the top of loaves was to "let/keep the devil out," so the bread would rise - and that goes for a lot more types of breads than just the little rolls.

slashing is common for bread but not as much for rolls or buns.

Good friday is coming up!

(any excuse to bake you know...)

I used the 3 loaf recipe @ronott1 but cut it in 7 pieces not three
