Got awaked by a phone call just now. Abnormal mammogram, need a follow up sonogram.:barnie

I've had to do that twice, frightening I know but you're going to be just fine. You just have fibrous girls up there. Period. Because we all said so :)

Yeah I know but I find it different when I raise it or know the animal.

For instance, one time my uncle got a ham for Christmas or his New Year's party from the neighbor's and supposedly it was the best ham ever. So later I snuck in and tried a tiny little bite (i wouldn't eat it at first and they do a buffet thing) but I spat it out. Reason being earlier neighbor/friend had been showing pictures of him or maybe he had shown pics way before the party when they got him and he was the cutest little black and white piglet sooo adorable and they named him Kevin Bacon :lau

Well anyway, he was so freaking cute that I just couldn't eat him. And I'd never even met the stupid pig before.

So I just feel like if I raised my own animals it would be wayyyy worse.

Or maybe it's only bad with cows or pigs and cute/fluffy things as opposed to like 50 chickens or whatever??

But still.

I know, it's weird and stupid, especially because factory farmed animals are treated wayyyyyy worse, but if I know the animal I can't but if I didn't see it or it's face somehow it's different? Even though it's not.

Yeah, it is probably much better.

And I feel like I'd probably be better if I had a farm hah

Not at all dumb. I had a potbelly named Ham-ton that I never could have eaten. Got him as a piglet, he slept on the floor by my bed and was just as dedicated to me as any dog.

Friends had a cow. I ate dinner there one night, we had bbq'd steak that was wonderful. Then we went out to feed the animals and there was no cow...my stomach turned and all I could think about was his big brown eyes and how he would get excited when we came around with feed. He was like a puppy jumping around.

I'm off work so I'm making some homemade ravioli. What's everyone doing today?

I think I'm coming to your house for a ravioli dinner

Actually, my DS is going to be here late this afternoon. I have until Friday morning to get him up to speed on taking care of the chickens and cats. Then DH & I are going on vacation.
:celebrate

Vacation? What is that?
Morning!
Meat chickens are not particularly cute when you go to process. They are grown up chickens that sometimes try to go for you and they are a lot of work and they taste phenomenal. They are worth it for sure! I like the red ranger types, and I have processed my own hatchers, but they are older and noisier and fight amongst themselves more, wasting energy!

I grew up on farm we never butchered horses but everything else we raised was for food one way or another if you wanted to eat you had to feed, water, clean whatever it was
times it bugged me but not to way I didn't eat that was life

Isn't that kind of mean making you do all that work just to eat?

Thanks. Glad it's not just me ha your pig sounds great!

It really is amazing how much personality they have.

Good morning everyone

.... aaaaannnnnddddd here come the spring storms... 20-35cm starting tomorrow night (30cm = 1 foot)

K - I thought I'd be like that with my pigs. We slaughtered our first one in November. I was really surprised when I was able to skin her and help butcher her. I was even more surprised when I was able to eat her without any problems. Pretty darn good for a city girl if you ask me. I found that once it was dead it was totally different. I guess because there was no personality anymore.

We raised meat rabbits in FL. The first one we butchered (ok, DH butchered) bothered me. But that soon passed. To me, the rabbits were only cute the first 8-10 days after they were born, after that they were kind of a pain and had no personality (and no names).

what are you doing on vacay @N F C

We're going sight-seeing...a bit of Utah, some of Colorado but mostly down around the north part of AZ (not as far as Phoenix so don't worry I'll show up at your doorstep:lol:). DH hasn't seen anything in the sw part of the country before so this will be especially interesting for him.

You could come share ravioli with us, we wouldn't mind a bit!

Beautiful there in UT and northern AZ, I hope you have a great time! It's good to get away from the homestead and get a break.
