Some of those homesteaders on the prarie went nuts due to incessant wind and living in dugouts, constant dirt. Also during the depression, lots of wind blowing dirt into the homes drove people to desperation as well. Years of it. Ever read Grapes of Wrath?

Oh yeah, read it a couple of times. I can understand why people go nuts when it's so loud and relentless!

I made Blueberry Muffins, DS likes the tops and the Ladies liked the rest.
My Ladies NEVER complain when I cook for them!:love:clap

I Turned over the dirt in the run and have added some grass clippings to make it more fun for the Ladies. The yard is looking better with a fresh cut lawn also. it always makes me think of a freshly vacuumed room. just nice and smells like fresh cut grass :ya

That is a "Self Blue" Cochin. I love her she is very friendly and the largest Gal in my coop. However she is also bottom of the Pecking order. All My Cochin hens are. but very docile.

Here's a pic without my hand blocking her. ;)

years ago we (I) was thinking about trying my hand at meat birds. They say Cochin are a great multi purpose bird so I ordered some different ones. She is my favorite! my rooster is the same color only he is a bantam. I will not be doing meat birds with this breed! so nice and BEAUTIFUL

Beautiful birds!

I don't think I'd be able to make meat birds out of them either. I don't think I could even do regular meat birds though haha

I've been thinking about getting some as pets and/or broodies.

Yeah, the giant dust storms and Oklahoma I think was the great dust bowl? Scary stuff. Learning about in history, though I already learned about it a while ago in high school. And read that book and I think seen the movie. But it is scary for sure! People were migrating out fast, right? Like to California or somewhere else?

I bet! And when everything is buried.

This one is really, REALLY scary!!

The difference it the posted speed limit. The section of I-80 has a posted speed limit of 70 but the average speed is much higher. It is a couple hundred mile section too.

Lots of fatalities but not as many as Highway 99 in Sacramento.

After the rain this weekend I plan turning the run and adding straw. The Hens love that!

Yes! and the movies about that time capture it fairly well too

Wow that is really scary!! I had no idea it was so bad!!!

My Cochin went broodie long enough to give me CHICKIE FEVER! and get some development. Then she either got bored or had a date and they died :hitMy DD was given a Little Giant incubator and is letting me use it. So Fever is now Anticipation:wee hopefully I will be able to post some super cute *Mutt* chickie pics in about 10 more days.

In the past I have had Great success with using a Silkie to brood eggs. Silkies will try to hatch rocks and are a super fun breed. I plan on getting more soon :clap
