Just curious, how old is your grandson Sour?

He is 15 going to be 16 in Oct. I think that he came out of the womb with a baseball in his hand. Son in law is a very good athlete, and all three kids are good athletes - GD outstanding soccer player, older GS wrestler, and this kid a baseball player.

Sounds like your grandson will be looking at college scholarships with his ball playing.

Sometime I wonder why some families are so athletically gifted. Sure didn't happen in mine...any day I can walk without tripping is a good day for me

That whole scholarship thing is getting nuts. There's a kid on his HS team who has already committed to a college, and a kid on this team who has already committed - these kids are just HS freshman. Grandson is a very talented ball handler both as a pitcher and in the field. At this point he is not great with the bat. He needs to get a bit bigger and stronger. Guaranteed that none of the athletic ability came from my DNA. SIL went to college on a tennis scholarship - long story there.

Good morning, Café, and thanks for the coffee. Boys won again last night 9/4. Top of the 4th inning they were down 4/0, but then the boys started hitting. Grandson pitched as a closer - faced 7 batters. First got a double but the rest either popped or struck out. This was a 44 team tournament @ $1,200 per team. Somebody is making a lot of money, but this is a really nice facility that has to be maintained. Tournament is broken into 3 segments so I guess there will be 3 eventual winners. Boys are doing really well as they are playing 'up' against kids that are a year older. These kids are skilled, but the big thing is that they don't get flustered. They don't think they can lose and frequently come from behind. Most teams save their best pitcher until they face these kids.

Use to be allot more were able to afford to get vaccines the vets here are pricing themselves out of business it is ridiculous the cost

I think our vet is very reasonable but probably still a lot more than vets used to be? But around here they also have a lot of cheaper options. Clinics at all the pet stores, mobile vans, and/or discount places. So it's possible to get the shots cheaper although of course you don't really get the checkup I don't think. Idk.

But I thought rabies was required??

I know other vaccines are optional and some people choose not to do them or to just titer test after the puppy shots as they say it's not necessary or even unhealthy to vaccinate so much and most still have immunity hence the titer test. Good point I suppose. Idk. But I thought that rabies was the one that was required?

When I was a teen I remember 'them' saying there were two forms of rabies(in dogs anyway) furious and dumb. furious of course was snapping and biting at anything around it even to the extent of breaking their own teeth. Dumb rabies, they couldn't bite or swallow, so no eating or drinking. Because they couldn't drink rabies used to be called
hydrophobia - fear of water. They weren't afraid of it, they just couldn't drink.

Old folks(me) can remember old stuff. My short term memory is gone.

Wow they both sound scary. This coon had no problems eating and I think he came back later cause the wire was moved (my dad had set it higher up on the fence). I need to go attach the HC 2 or 3 feet up all around and/or get bucket feeders and waterers.

I have a neighbor who's horse got rabies from a bat. Had to put down 2 horses. Plus, she was infected too, and had to take that painful series of shots. such a shame, she had some gorgeous show horses.
Didn't know horses could get rabies but I do now!

I think that all mammals can get rabies - opossums maybe not ? Rabies is endemic in my area. Several years ago it became epidemic. That year there was an apparently rabid skunk in my back yard, an apparently rabid woodchuck in my back yard, apparently rabid raccoon that attacked my truck, and an apparently rabid fawn down at the beagle club. It became my habit to carry a very heavy walking cane wherever I went.

Soo scary! We don't seem to have too much rabies here.

And I think possums are unable to carry rabies for some reason.

There was a similar situation about 10 years back when I lived in northeast KS...lots of rabid skunks. Our poor neighbor boy tried to walk down his drive to meet the school bus and ended up getting chased around his house by a rabid skunk. Far as I know, that kid is still terrified of skunks (not that I particularly like them either).

I believe that they advance immediately to the finals because of their record. If so they play at 6:30. Grandson threw less than 25 pitches so he is eligible to pitch if needed. Of the 16 member team roster at least half are good to excellent pitchers.

Yeah, the scholarship thing is crazy. I didn't think they were allowed to offer scholarships so young. They didn't used to be. It used to be junior or senior year I think. But now they offer them all over and so young. Around here lacrosse and football are big and the kids are recruited very young. I think it's somewhat dumb in a way cause at that age you don't even really know who you are or what you're gonna wanna do. You don't know if you'll get hurt or decide you don't want to play anymore or if you'll like the school or whatever. But I guess when you've been playing since you could walk and gone to camps and stuff you usually won't just decide to stop playing but still. At least juniors and seniors you have somewhat of a better idea of what you wanna do or be.

Of course, I'm still not sure I'd want a opossum around but they are cleaner and more beneficial than most people realize and don't usually carry rabies. I just found that interesting.

Yeah, I'm sure my dog wouldn't let opossums here either lol although now he's so old and slow he might.
