Good morning, Café. Boys won a squeaker of a game last night 2/1. Grandson did a really good job pitching. A couple of bad calls at first base, and a couple of errors cost them the run and almost the game.

Games like that can be frustrating!

Yes, but it is getting to be late on this hatch. And it was a quick grab the egg and shut the bator.

I just wondered. I tried that a couple of times and then I had to open all the eggs.
They could not hatch on their own.

New mystery at the funny farm today,
Last month I took in a few chickens they are still in cages in the storage / child moved out room. A rooster and 2 hens all have their own cage. I was enjoying coffee trying to figure out my incubation issue and about what day the embryo quit (I think day 13 Thanks to BYC ' s helpful learning center) Any way this odd crow blared me out of my coffee / reading zone. That boy is sick!!!
So I am off to see how bad.
I enter the room not knowing what I will see When all of a sudden this screeching crow comes blaring at me! But not from Brens cageFreeta, the oversexed hen I took in last month is yammering at me with all the noise of a Cockerel

Even though it is terribly hot outside I may have to find an hour or so that won't kill her to let her do hen things.

The one thing does not have to be the cause of the other!

Sticking chicks are usually caused by other things like shipping and temps.

If an egg has a big pip or hole in the egg, it will dry out no matter what the humidity is or if you open the incubator. The only thing the humidity does is slow down the drying.

It is the amount of time that the chick is in there with the hole that counts! What I have seen is the chick gets stuck on the goo from the yolk that broke. The chick can't turn and zip and also does not get all of the nutrition and energy out of the yolk. That situation usually happens to many of the chicks in a hatch. It can be a nightmare!

I keep trying but now I thing she is crowing to see how fast I can bring my black face thing (iPad) and a new treat

I need a spy camera so I can always catch the fun.

I have one that does something like a crow. It is more like what quail do though. It sounds weird!

I am wondering if she needs a social hour. Her cage is on top of the other two in the room. When I bring them out to play in the ducks day pen she plays outside the fence. Mostly by my feet or under my coffee table out there. See outside she gets beat up by new rooster but beats up the other hen. So I keep her out of their zone since I am not planning for them to be a permanent flock. One of the hens from my coop came over while free ranging Freeta puffed up her chest and tried to take Nat's watermelon and Natalie took one look at her, stepped on her like a giant and then ate her watermelon in peace.
It was stupid funny cuz
no one was harmed in the making of my laughter.

It is good that they won

A little frustration is good now and then. Keeps them from being complacent. These boys are well coached and rarely lose composure. One bad call at first put a kid on base. He then stole second, and eventually scored. This particular umpire had given the team questionable calls this season. Coincidence or ? Coach never complains, but he stood on the third base line, stared at umpire, and gave the 'out' fist clench and arm pump. Anyway, opinions are just that and umpiring is a thankless task .
