GREAT IDEA! I think I have some. I use it for everything! Motor home, incubator, under bathroom rugs, even in sink or tub to wash baby (not for a long time now though) or animal.

These 3 came into our life with injuries or from poor management. I don't usually have chickens in the house. Chicks yes adults no. Surprisingly it did not take DH or DS too long to tune out the rooster :thumbsup.
The crates and cages are from past pets that no longer live with us do to death or placement.
This is Freeta when she captured my heart last month. She was in a 3x6 cage with a rooster who is also here but no damage so he is outside.

I hope they all get back to health soon for you!

The one thing does not have to be the cause of the other!

Sticking chicks are usually caused by other things like shipping and temps.

If an egg has a big pip or hole in the egg, it will dry out no matter what the humidity is or if you open the incubator. The only thing the humidity does is slow down the drying.

It is the amount of time that the chick is in there with the hole that counts! What I have seen is the chick gets stuck on the goo from the yolk that broke. The chick can't turn and zip and also does not get all of the nutrition and energy out of the yolk. That situation usually happens to many of the chicks in a hatch. It can be a nightmare!

Thanks for the straightening me out. :D

Ron the main problem I had was the project bronze turkey.
They filled the entire shell and had no room to zip. I had to open the shell on every one.
Usually the top half a day early so they would not die in the shell.
I wish I knew if they were able to produce babies of their own.
How odd!

Were they shipped or from local eggs? Shipped eggs will do what you describe.

No they were my birds eggs. I crossed a BBB with a Standard Bronze to get a larger bird than the standard but not as large as the BBB. And it worked! But the poults could not hatch by themselves. So I had to assist them. And out of all the eggs I hatched only 4 lived past the 6 months stage.
