One of the problems I've found is some of my stuff is a bit too 'off base' for people to consider having in their houses; great to admire at an exhibition but you need some balls to stick it in your living room.:p
The thing is, I enjoy making the off base stuff but it just doesn't sell, or not enough.
The other problem I find here is while lots of people are very complimentary about the stuff I make, to my face anyway, they just aren't prepared to pay for the time it takes me to make them.
I end having to make some stuff I think may sell and that means I'm having to work to a price range. I don't really enjoy doing that. It cramps the art if that makes sense.
Perfect sense.

If I could get my hand to transfer what my mind sees....they might be better. My hand isn't as steady as it use to be either.
Now there's another interesting thing.
(sorry Cafe people if I bang on for a bit)
I've been asked why I don't carve real trees, animals etc. It's quite hard to explain to people I carve directly from my mind to the wood. If I had to make a real life representation of something I wouldn't know where to start.

Well, didn't get them off the computer...found the thread that I posted them in. They didn't transfer clear.

Just spent the last few hours going through this thread! Wow, quite a few talented folks on here. Here's a few pics of my paintings. Self taught, no lessons, ever. Subject matter mainly Wildlife, Southwestern and Native American themes. Some are "works in progress" I just dabble in oil painting when I have time and in the mood. Im by no means an accomplished artist but I aspire to be one day.

I understand that. I use to do taxidermy, 'professionally'. I could and still can make whatever I mount make it look absolutely alive. As I use tell aspiring taxidermist, "anyone can mount an animal, bird or fish but it takes a real artist to make it look alive".

Getting paid for your time has to be a commen issue for artists of all mediums. People think "I could buy a lamp/painting/whatever at a store for $xx" and don't understand why something handmade and original should cost differently.

True that....I was always getting, "can't you do that cheaper?" To which I always replied, "if you want it done cheaper, take it to someone else". "You'll get it cheaper but not better". I actually got to a point I had to refuse to mount stuff....just too busy.

Oooh, you're starting to sound like a grouchy old guy Sean (thinking back to a certain previous "ancient" comment)! :lau

Hi everyone :)

I made a fresh pot of coffee if anyone would like a cup.

I've been researching making self wicking planters using recycled water bottles and milk jugs along with other possible uses. I used some old tshirts to make grocery bags, a no sew project that took about half an hour. My goal this year is to recycle as much as possible. I'm hoping we'll have enough milk jugs that the kids and I can make an igloo by the end of the year too.

Enjoy your afternoon all :frow

Thanks for the coffee IM, I just poured a small one :caf

Recycling is always a good endeavor. I like the idea of the self-wicking planters, hope you'll share how you did it with us.

IM come out here, I don't have milk bottles but, I have loads of white, thick plastic bleach bottles (gals.) I soaked and cleaned them to remove all trace/smells of bleach. I used them for plain water & fertilized water for my plants.

I've gotten rid of the plants but, still have stuff- tons of it. Got rid of the plants because I grew mine under lights (5 -3 shelf light stands and 15 special plant fixtures that space two fluorescent tubes farther apart for better growth. In fact the entire half basement is all stuff for plants. Even made up all my planting mix. When I do something it's always with great gusto., 14 years of it and tremendous electric bills convinced me to dump them.
