Well,good morning Cafe peoples! After much careful consideration and some research we are getting a young rooster. He is Black Copper Marans and Americauna cross. We're picking him up Saturday after they worm him. Here is his picture:

I hope so! We are getting him to breed, we want chicks that our hens will brood instead of trying to order from a hatchery. Plus, well...you know...chicken math!

Plus, you get to listen to him crowing! That's a good sound to me

Not a blue egg but I did get the first quail egg today. The Quail are 7 weeks old

Thank you. The little man will have his own bachelor pad well away from the ladies,and wont get to meet them for at least a month.

We are making good use of the old fencing that was blown down to make a secure place for him. Then we will probably use the new coop/run for a brooder and grow out pen. Well laid plans, but only time will tell I guess.

I put it into the egg basket with the chicken eggs on the kitchen counter. I am waiting to see if anyone notices

Idk, i have never eaten them but i hear they are quite rich and less allergenic than chicken eggs.

What made you decide he was the one?

Plus, you get to listen to him crowing! That's a good sound to me

I find it odd when people find rooster crowing annoying given it's one of my favorite sounds. I've got a couple here that give a plaintive type warble at the end of the crow.

The crowing is not what makes them illegal in most instances. They are anti-fighting rules and laws actually. We can't talk about it here though.
