The crowing is not what makes them illegal in most instances. They are anti-fighting rules and laws actually. We can't talk about it here though.

I don't understand the above with regard to legality. I was just commenting on the fact that some people find the crowing annoying.

“I’m interested”…..Actually means: I wish I could buy it. But I won’t.

“Do you have more pictures”…..Actually means: I’d like to waste your time with more
photos, and info before I Never buy anything.

“I want it, can you hold it for me?”….Actually means: Can you hold it 2 weeks to a month, and then I won’t show up to buy anyway.

“How many do you have?”…..Actually means: Get a count of all you have, But I’m only
looking for 1.

“Where are you located?”…..Actually means: You don’t live within 10 miles of my house, so I’m not buying.

“I need to ask my spouse.”…..Actually means: I’ve never discussed it with my spouse,
so I’m going to waste your time before I try to get approval. (Which Never happens)

“Is it good with kids?”…..Actually means: My kids are brats that I can’t control, but I’m
going to turn them loose on this little animal.

“Is it current on shots?”...Actually means: I don’t use a vet. If I have a problem, I ask a question on FB, and beg others to support my gofundme account, because I can’t afford a vet bill.

“Would you meet?”….Actually means: Meet me at the gas station by my house, so I
don’t have to drive more than a couple miles.

“Is delivery included?”….Actually means: I want you to spend $40.00 in gas to deliver
a $20.00 animal to me.

Where I live there is an ordinance against roosters. It is not because of the crowing but because of what some use them for.

My neighbors do not complain about the crowing but that I have chickens at all. Luckily they cannot make me get rid of them as long as I follow the rules

I like the sound of roosters crowing too.

What made you decide he was the one?

Well he's good looking and young.
Nice temperment,raised in a multi generational flock with a good flock master to school him. Older hens to keep him humble! Said to be respectful of humans, even friendly : but was incubated inside and handled alot. I will allow him whatever space he may require; let him grow up.

Also we have a coop for him, so if the introductions get too rocky we can put him in time out for a couple days. One other factor is you and your peer group of rooster wranglers are here to guide me through.

I can understand possibly a ban on chickens, or livestock I suppose is the catch all description that makes a ban seem more reasonable, but to ban keeping roosters because they may be bred for fighting doesn't seem all that bright to me. I don't know, but I wouldn't have thought many that keep a flock of chickens, rooster/s and hens would use their roosters for fighting. Maybe a better 'ban' would be rooster only flocks if the authorities believe that rooster fights are that common in the area.

To be honest Becca I can't see you having problems with a rooster. You just seem to sensible and capable.

@Shadrach to me the yolks in quail eggs aren't as dry as those in chicken eggs, the taste is slightly richer and they're bite sized. 2 or 3 make a good snack. I added them hard boiled to ramen for lunch today.
I fried the first one, didn't dig it. Not sure about scrambled or omelets yet.

I've never had them. I've seen them on menus in restaurants and even for sale in some food shops.
