BYC Café

Good morning, Cafe. Thanks for the coffee.

Taking a break at work from the gazillion emails I have to catch up on. That's really the only bad thing about being away for over a week.

That storm last night was a whopper. Ben was terrified and jumped up into the bed. He almost squashed Fuji who sleeps down at the foot board under the covers. Funny thing is, it was Ben doing that that woke me up, not the lighting and thunder. I sleep with ear plugs in.

I pulled his bed right up next to my side of the bed and tossed him off. He jumped back on. DH folded up an old quilt and put it on the floor in the walk-in closet for him and he happily went in there where he could not see the lighting flashes and the sounds of the thunder were more muffled.

We had a tree come down right smack dab next to the free garden shed we placed on the opposite side of our property to use for our lawn equipment when I took over the large shed for my coop project. It just missed it.

I wouldn't mind having cassowaries but they are rare, expensive and dangerous. Two outta 3 reasons I don't! :lau Actually, Emus, Ostriches are just as dangerous, they can kill with their 'kicks' too!
They are stunning birds. There are a few breeders in the states that do raise them.
I have some Reeves pheasants you don't turn your back on...they will spur the heck outta ya every time....mainly during breeding season.
Had a feral cat attack one the other night, the cat managed to get the door open on the pen, the ground was all torn up, and both the cat and the Reeves was dead! The cat's belly was ripped open, the Reeves had a slash in the neck that I believe was its demise...finally bleed to death.
They are very pretty!

Oh wow! I'm so glad it didn't hit your shed!

Sitting here at the vet clinic with my sick rooster.:( I thought he wasn't gonna make it through last night, but he was up and hungry this morning. Scary how fast they can go downhill, and drop weight! I posted on the emergency thread yesterday if you want to read it. Wish me luck.:fl
Wishing you much luck with your roo. :hugs

Good morning café and thanks for the coffee. Trying to decide if I'm done enough with my cake to share...I think it's a little boring, but will have to do for now. If nothing else, it'll taste good :drool Hope everyone has a happy Monday!

I think you are right. People who claim to know about cassowaries say that, though they are well armed, they aren't a threat unless they feel threatened. A sudden movement or sound; who knows what he may have done to startle the bird?:idunno

Saw this in the store. Haven't tried it yet, but I love the name!:gig

Maybe the fall startled it???

And :lau that is too funny!!

Good morning cafe.
Thanks for the coffee Shad and NFC.

Shad, have fun watching chickens.

NFC don't work hard today!

@KDOGG331 that's what I remember reading about dinosaurs and birds too. Hope you made it back to sleep!

Happy Monday everyone.

Thank you, I did but in spurts of about an hour and a half. First till 8 (went back to sleep 630) then till 9:30, then 10:45, etc. but now I am up and good. The broken sleep kind of stinks but oh well. Fell asleep at around 1 or 2 last night reading a book.

And yes, it was a very interesting read. I will have to see if I can find an article on it.
