Can I pose a very serious question to the group? Do any of you care that the guys on the bachelorette had to use clothes pins to simulate breast feeding on last night's episode? I'm having a really hard time seeing why something like that is part of the morning news.

I don't follow that show and can't see why that would be on the news. But then there are a lot of things on the "news" that don't seem news-worthy to me anyway.

Whatever happened to the real news like Huntley & Brinkley or Walter Cronkrite used to do? Geez, I sound like such a fogey

The media is diverting our attention from the really important things happening in the world. It's a shame when people care more about what's going on in the entertainment industry than the world or even their own state, region or city.
Walter always did his homework...news anchors today just want to be the first to announce the 'breaking news' without verifying anything for facts.

Sad but true and I agree with you.

The other day I was talking to someone about kids needing to look up to real role models...people who have overcome adversity and made something of themselves. The person I was talking to said her kids look up to Kim K. When I asked why, she said, well because she's a Kardashian. I asked her to explain what Kim Kardashian has done to deserve being looked up to. Boy, did she have a blank expression, couldn't think of a single thing.

Yeah, alot of people don't or didn't have any role models growing up, other than athletes, movie stars, rock stars, etc...I don't think they are very good role models. My role model was my Dad...kinda like the song 'Cat's in the Cradle', except he always made time for his children.
John Wayne's characters he portrayed were also my role model, not the man himself.

:oldWe can be fogeys together. I feel the same way :highfive:And the Kardashian family is an abomination in my opinion. Certainly nothing to look up to. They're always in the news so they must be popular which obviously makes them worth something:rolleyes:

Oh yea, we don't have the whole story yet, but you heard about it here first.

I do like the World News with David Muir. He always ends with something positive.

Ohhh, look, it's senior rant time. I think I can join in this.:p:cool:
I detest the celebrity culture. I abhor the crap that gets pumped out as news.
I can't stand the xenophobic tripe in the media.
I resent it deeply when after 20 years of education the best some can manage by way of communication is a single sentence on face book.
How is it possible that someone can know what a footballer had for breakfast but can't manage to remember a few basic formula.
It's no wonder some of the more far seeing sociologists believe mental illness is what will finish our species off.

Now where did I put those rage fit pills.:rant

Hooray! Fogies unite!

Shad, did you ever see an old movie called "Multiplicity"? It's about a guy that clones himself over & over and with each cloning, the resulting guy is dumber and dumber. I think that's what we're seeing now. Dumb, dumber, dumbest...

Oops, the movie was Idiocracy. And here I am talking about dumb

Now that I have myself straightened out, it's time to go to work :gig

You all have a great day!

Nope, I've not seen that one N F C.
I do seriously wonder if we are getting less intelligent (in it's broadest sense depending on definition).
