BYC Café

Good afternoon y’all! Been a busy morning. Rooster didn’t like being confined to the run so he flew the coop and I had to chase him down. Good thing he thinks with his gut. Guinea flew out onto our deck where the young guineas are brooding (they get brought in at night.), and I have my deformed duck on the deck with some water since he can’t walk anymore. Going to butcher him tomorrow. DB is sad about that since they are pets but it needs to be done. We gave him a good life and he will now provide for us. Haven’t butchered a bird so big but I’m up for the challenge!

I bumped into a couple of guys from our chicken club. We try to have a topic to talk about when we meet. Next weeks topic is, should they get permission from the pope to keep chickens.:gig
The basis of the topic came up a couple of meetings ago. Bear in mind these are Catholic people, but also farmers with a sense of humor. It was decided that given hens can prevent sperm from fertilizes an egg this in the eyes of the church is contraception which is frowned on by the church.
Also, given a hens tendency to kill chicks while still half hatched if they believe there is something wrong with the chick, this is technically abortion and the church doesn't condone this either.
There is also the small problem of the roosters harem. One of the guys said this wouldn't be a problem for him as he keeps game fowl pairs.
It should be a good meeting.:)

Ha! Sounds like a fun bunch :D

They've been great. Bear in mind I'm the British madman who looks after chickens.
My Catalan at farm jokes and Cafe humour level is pretty dire and they put up with me with only a tiny bit of piss taking.
Well, at least you try, Shadrach! I suppose things can get pretty humorous when trying to break through language or interpretation barriers.
