I've discovered a completely unforeseen problem with this double sitting business.
The nest is in the house nest box. Ruffles sits during the day and Tackle during the night.
There are reasons for this explained earlier.
The problem is Tackle spends a lot of the day here waiting for me to remove Ruffles. She stays in broody mode essentially and what broody hens do normally when they get off the nest to eat, drink, bath is empty their bowls.
Under normal circumstances this entails one large very smelly dump and while they are off the nest, as many little squeezes as they can to ensure their bowls are empty when the return to sitting.
Tackle does her mega dump after Ruffles evicts her in the morning and hse is very good and does this outside. However, when she comes back into the house she spends the day making sure her bowls are empty in case she sits. The effect of this given she nips out for a snack or two is a constant stream of tiny poop piles and this goes on all day!
As soon as she gets back on the nest in the evening it stops.
My toilet roll consumption is going to require a bank loan to fund at this rate.
