Yes! I think I am definitely going to make pickles. Cause otherwise I don’t know what I am going to do with all of these cucumbers. :lau

I’m not sure exactly but definitely at least 6 or 8 feet wide and maybe 15 or 20 feet long? It’s on top of the old chicken run so I know it’s at least 6x12 but it did spread out beyond that some and also I had another smaller garden last year that I added onto the end that’s maybe 4x4? Or 6x6? Idk exactly. so it’s bigger than the initial run area but didn’t measure so idk ha but it’s huge. And tbh not nearly enough. I was spending tons of time at first but now I’ve been so busy with other stuff lately I’ve been somewhat neglecting it a little bit. But everything is still doing well but I mostly just need to get in there and weed. That’s the main thing. And caging the tomatoes which I haven’t done yet.

But in the actual garden I have 3 cucumber plants, a huge eggplant plant, another smaller eggplant, a huge yellow summer squash plant, probably at least 10-15 tomato plants? Maybe more. Have some volunteer ones too so not sure on the exact numbers. Probably at least 5 or 6 types though. At least 7 peppers, 4 different kinds. Probably at least 5? Green bean plants. 2 of which are producing most of my green beans currently. And then a bunch of peas too but I planted those really late so will be fall crop.

Then over next to the current chicken run I have another cucumber and another squash that for some reason isn’t growing or producing flowers or anything despite still being healthy and green? It had some flowers then they fell off in a storm and it hasn’t produced more. But the cucumber is thriving. Also have a grape plant over there that’s thriving too. Have another one too but I think it died. I’m not sure. I left it in hoping it would come back but might need to pull it. But the other is doing really well.

It’s funny too cause normally I spend more time in the garden and last year it didn’t do that well yet this year I’ve spent way less time and it’s thriving haha but we’ve also had tons of rain this summer and this is also the first year I’ve tried growing on the chicken run area. It’s really fertile I think. :lau especially since I’ve also been adding peat moss and kitchen scraps and all sorts of stuff, kind of composting on it too, so I think that’s helped make it even better.

Might try moving the chickens every year hah
A Co Worker dropped of a bag of veggies and I made 6 jars of pickles out of the cucumbers. There were the lemon cucumbers, a couple of big salad ones and the little gherkin type for making pickles.

They are very good pickles

Those sound awesome! Not really sure what type mine are. :hide

Originally I bought some Russian Pickling Cucumbers from Seed Savers Exchange but I never planted them. :hide

So then I just bought some I saw at TSC along with the huge eggplant, beans, peas and some other stuff. Anyway, the tag just said “burpless bush hybrid” and one was a climbing one but otherwise the same. So that’s all I know about them. :hide

But they’re good haha

Was thinking about making bread and butter pickles. Loveeee those. :drool

Btw here is the finished product...

The basil is from the garden too. Forgot to mention I also have a large pot of basil and two potted pepper plants in addition to the 7 in ground ones. Lots of peppers this year lol

Didn’t use any in this dish but just forgot to mention that before.

Anyway, here is the finished product.

All cucumbers make good pickles!

All cucumbers make good pickles!

That is good to know!! Thank you! Wasn’t sure if they would be.

I will make cucumbers with them then. Picked about 7 or 8 today so should be perfect.

That said, any ideas what to do with this HUGE one? :lau

Picked it Monday, didn’t notice it when I picked the other veggies Sunday. Haven’t found a use for it yet.
