BYC Café

2 Dorkings in the incubator and the last chick, a Turken mix, is zipping :jumpy
Awe, baby chicks, how fun.

Good vibes for your road trip, Tonya. That's a long one. Hopefully the traffic cooperates!

Glad you got some golf in, Debby! Sounds like fun. Took golf lessons a couple times, but it really wasn't my bag

Fresh pot brewed - have at it.

Good morning, Cafe.
Nice to see you Tina.
Hi Shad, Debby, Sean and IM.
I'm in for a long haul today. About 9 hours on the road transferring DH from son to sister.

This morning while I was cleaning the poop boards the flock went up in a cacophony of alerts. Ground predator. So they got me curious and I started looking where they were looking. Across the road to the old man out in his front yard. Yep. I might alert to. The last time I saw him was during the last power outage when he was peeing at the side of his house... thankfully facing away from the road. I guess he just couldn't make it to the backyard.

Did you move across the road from me ?

Another good day - Treaty had an exceptional run , came back high, performed in second series and won a class of 23. 3 days of rest and then another trial at the club. It was a good field trial for me.

This is Ruffles out and about with her youngster.

And this is Knock out and about with her two chicks.

This is the three witches after I evicted them for a bit of a clean up. They leave the eggs without any encouragement first thing in the morning. In the current weather I like to get them off the eggs, fed, watered, and bathed twice a day.

This Bracket (aka Miss Neurological) She's on her way back to the nest puffed up and clucking like mad.

Bracket has become a bit of a sweetheart to me. I've handled her a lot since she had her wry neck problem. Hinge on the other hand, the black hen standing on the rock in the picture 2 above, I've only handled a couple of times when she was wounded by a hawk.
Bracket doesn't fuss when I pick her up. She seems perfectly relaxed in the palm of my hand. She doesn't do the post mating shake when I put her down which is interesting; most hens do. She was practically sitting on top of Nolia in the nest box this evening. I slid my hand under her a carefully lifted her out of the nest box; not a murmur. I set her down gently between the roost bar and the wall next to her man Punch. She sat down. Her head went back and she wiggled into the corner. I stroked her beak for a while and it was like Bracket had just switched off. No reaction, head back and staring into space.

The males in the picture 2 above are Punch and Mag.
They come out in the morning with the witches very boisterous and rush up to check for any fallen grapes. Nolia, Hinge and Bracket are only interested in eating and bathing. Punch and Mag stand around attentively, and then the hens cluck off back to their nest.
The males start play fighting and try to herd each other, get bored and go and sulk under a bush. I stopped by their favorite bush this afternoon with a walnut or two to provide a bit of moral support. They really don't know what to do with themselves without hens.
When it cools down early evening the pair emerge from their bush and wander around looking lost. Of course, if another tribe passes they annoy the females by trying to herd them away; yes you read that right, away. When I evict the hens early evening Punch and Mag come hurtling out of the bushes, leg kicking and pecking at the ground like lunatics, making I've found food calls. The hens pretty much ignore them.

Not Morning and thanks for the coffee. Hope all is well!
Glad your Pup did well, Sour! Hope the drive goes well, DL and the hatching, IM.
That was about all I had time to scan and so I hope everything is going a-okay with the Cafe!

Glad you made it in to say hello Margie. :frow
